FInding the year of an engine.

Post by Jay72 »

Is there any way of finding out what year an engine (KLZE) was made if the engine dealer does not have that info? Such as serial number or stamp sequences per year or something to that effect? Or is the year stamped somewhere on the engine that I'm not aware of?

There is a vin plate on the back side of the engine block...... one of the letters at the beginning is a code for what year the motor is

the Tenth letter in the vin number indicates model year

N-1992
P-1993
R-1994

of course that is for north american models, dont know if it will be the same on a KLZE

the 10th letter is the same in all vehicles all over. The 1st letter is the deciding factor on whether its japanese or not

Where is this engine 'VIN' number located on the block? The only stampings i've found, other than the serial number, is a stamping containing letters, ie: BCB CBB... etc. and close by that two circular dials, one with a number and the other with a letter??? Is that it?

There is a Vin plate on the rear of the block just above the intermediate shaft

Yep thats where i found those stampings, on the block just beside the tranny. It still dosn't seem to correspond with the info above. It's only 10 letters long and the last one (10th one) is an 'L'??

Is your car a '91 by any chance? According to that sequence 'L' would be that year (considering that we're all talking about a j-spec engine here).

I believe there are usually two numbers on a North American block. There's a block number and a VIN plate. The VIN plate follows the standard VIN format. I'm not sure what the embedded code's format is.

The engine is a ZE from a Jap Eunos 800. So i guess since its not A-spec it dosn't have a VIN plate.
Yes, i think its that embedded code i was referring too, so that won't tell me anything then hey? I was just curious of the exact year of manufacture.
