rpm increases on it's own?

Post by mcfly »

so yeah, about a month ago, my engine overheated as some of you may know since i posted something about it a while back. I wasn't able to start it for a month than the other day i try and start it and it actually starts, but, my rpm and temperature gages go up on their own without me even pressing down on the gas pedal. I tried driving my car around the block today and didn't make it 20 feet from my house lol. Car stalled then couldn't start it again. I believe my car overheated at first because my thermostat isnt good anymore, but now it's definitly an engine problem, i've been told it could be something with the head gasket, any suggestions or opinions are appreciated. I'd rather a few people tell me the same thing that could be wrong then me have to go to a mechanic and pay 100$ for them to tell me something i already know.

Cheers

if it smoke or leaks compression it could be the head gasket or head, the car would also lack power. if it smokes what colour is the smoke

car doesn't smoke bro, when the car overheated about a month ago, it was steam i'd say, not smoke. Didn't seem thick enough but it was night time so it mighta been, if it was smoke, then it was white.

If you overheated your engine, your probably warped the head... when you warp the head you will blow a head gasket. If you do a compression test this will tell you if you have blown a gasket.

Trying to drive your car more is just causing more damage...

Ive been thinking I have a blown head gasket. Ive ran a compression test like 155-150 all across, Could I still have good compression and have a blown head gasket ? Also the car smokes 75% of the time, Cam't figure out why ??? Anyone have some suggestions

If your car is always smoking , it sounds like a ring issue.

Sure, you could have good compression but you could also have a hole from the cylinder seal into a water channel/jacket which could cause some problems.

I thought compression was supposed to be like 180-185 ?
