Twin-Turbo MX-3
Okay, I know it's a stupid idea, but I was wondering if the power gain over a single turbo setup would be substantial enough to warrant getting the other turbo. This would be a junkyard turbo setup. Also, how much boost will the tiny 6 cylinder motor handle? The only reason i'm asking is because i'm getting this car for $400 and i wanna have a fun car to mess around with and have as a daily driver.

You could get massive gains with just one blower. There are at least two people on the board who are proof of that.
Friends are just enemies who lack the testicular fortitude to kill you.

Re: Twin-Turbo MX-3
You can size a turbo for the 1.8L so it could spool like 2 tiny but still has a good top end. Cost WAY less and less trouble tuningInMyWhiteTII wrote:Okay, I know it's a stupid idea, but I was wondering if the power gain over a single turbo setup would be substantial enough to warrant getting the other turbo. Twin turbo is really only good if you want gobbs of attention. Otherwise it is just too expensive. Turbo tehcnology today is such that one good turbo will be cheaper and just as fast as a twin set-up with one tiny and one larg turbo. Also, a 1.8 or 2.5L is really too small to get any benefit out of a twin turbo.

I wouldn't necessarily say so. Two small GT28's would do the job of one larger turbo. It's just that you can't physically fit two in the engine bay without major work being done. The two may have to be smaller than that...PATDIESEL wrote:, a 1.8 or 2.5L is really too small to get any benefit out of a twin turbo.

But why waste 2000-2500 on two GT-28s when one will spool at a low RPM and still give a great deal of HP. Who will ever build a 700 HP MX-3???
So my point is; in the realm of reality it is not necessary nor beneficial.
