Problem solved (kinda)

Post by mamoo »

Some time ago I posted a problem with my MX ... when I hit 120 kp/h on the highway (about 75 mp/h), the car began to shake pretty hard. I couldn't figure it out, and no one had an idea.

Well, I recently replaced all four tires and had a new ball joint put in, and the problem has mostly gone away. It still happens, but instead of starting at 120 kph, it starts at 140 kph (about 85 mph), and it's not nearly as bad as before.

Maybe it's just a coincidence. Or maybe it's just the highway (they've been improving them around Toronto).

Just thought I'd mention it ...

Also, check your wheel bearings.
Warped rotors can cause it too..

Bad alignment can show itself at high speeds. If you get one done they can also check to see if anything else might be causeing the problem.

Actually, now that you mention it, I did have the alignment done when I changed the tires. That's probably it.

Actually the shaking at 140 is extremely minor compared to what it used to be.
