Where is it located? Do you have to remove the cat? Do you install it from the top or bottom? Ok so 3 questions. Lol!

if you have a 4 cyl it should be on the back of the engine where the tranny and engine meet. i do not think you have to remove the cat and it is installed from the bottom. i do not know about the v6 tho. it must not be much different.
95 rs with custom short ram air, b&m short throw shifter, probe 2.0L header with 2 1/4" exhaust all the way back, catco high flow cat, apc high flow muffler with 4.5" tip, accel 8 mm wires, blaze red, cf altezzas, gun metal 17" mr7s, slotted cross drilled rotors on the way with hawk hps pads, red and white interior, other then that its stock.

This is harder than I thought. I had to remove the bracket blocking the starter. The bolts are very hard to get to. I only see one bolt holding the starter in. how many are there?

I believe three but don't quote me on that.
A little tip; I know the bolts for my starter on my Taurus were a pita. I had to dowse (sp?) them in wd40 and let them sit for a while to even attempt to break them loose. After about 3 coats they finally broke loose. So, uh, yeah...

If its a 4 cyl theres like 3 bolts to the retainer bracket and two to the starter, not including wiring. its easiest to do this with the car on ramps.
I did mine in under an hour, the biggest hassle was realigning the starter, but the bracketry helps to ensure the starters seated properly. biggest thing is making sure the cars safely supported before crawling underneath...cars are to be driven not worn as headgear

What retainer bracket are you guys talking about? The one for the battery :?:

I've replaced my starter 4 times now, and this is how i did it:
Remove the battery, Loosened two bolts that hold the top of the starter. Jacked the car up and loosened the one bolt on the bottom of the stater. Took all the wireing off. Removed bottom bolt. Had a friend remove the top two while I held the starter. When the bolts were out I just shimmied the starter down around the exaust and put the new one in...

This last starter I put in is acting up too... if its because I missed some special bracket im gonna be quite upset

it can be done with just taking intake hose off but its easier with battery out, mxprecida,,those are the 4 and there should be one to starter, if any one is running without bracket expect to crack intake in future,

so r u saying its easier to do from top rather from the bottom? even if i take both intake and battery out, the starter has to slide out toward the passenger side and has to be removed through the bottom, correct?

If I remember correctly there is no way to pull it out the top. The reason you remove the battery or intake pipe is so that you can get to two of the bolt holding the starter to the block.

Are the starters on the SOHC and DOHC pretty much the same??? I dont see how im missing this "retainer bracket" all i had were 3 bolts holding the starter to the block...

got pics anyone

well, heres a picture of a nice clean starter:

Image

Thats all they gave me at napa when I said I need a new starter, they are usually good about telling/warning me of other things to look out for when replacing parts...

here's a picture thats about the same view of what you'd see lookin at it from under the car.

Image

I drew in the only screws I had to remove to replace the starter, the two on the top are side by side, one close to the block the other close to the firewall... then the one on the bottom. Nothing else was in my way, and I dont seem to remember any open holese for bolts or missing dangly things...
