burning oil but compression is 170 across the board

Post by okoman »

WHat other reasons could cause this engine to burn oil without a severe loss in compression? I did a standard compression test and all cylinders were around 170.

Do a leak down test or have a mech do one for ya. Tells ya much more about what's going on. Read more about it here. http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/maintain/answ ... swer5.html

Yes to all of the above.....but be sure to check the obvious -- PCV valve. My 1992 RS began to burn oil a few months ago. I noticed the oily residue on the back bumper and license plate. I replaced the PCV valve and problem solved! Simply pull it out and shake it. If the plastic piece inside rattles freely about, it should be fine. If not, replace it for a couple bucks. A cheap fix! It's recommended that the PCV valve be replaced every 30,000 miles or every two years but honestly mine lasted for over 12 years and nearly 350,000 miles. Still, it's worth checking it out.

Yup, that was one of the things i replaced on mine the day I got it. As well as the disty cap/rotor, spark plugs, wires, oil. It should be good to go. And always remember, if its something thats over 1000 bucks to fix..get a KLZE lol...double the horse power, low km engine, good to go..

good luck man
