Why did you stay? Seriously, you wouldn't be breaking the law if you evaculated with the millions of others. They had shelters, it was a marshal law, and it was seflish to stay.

"I had no where to go".

Pure crap.

When shat his the fan in the US....we get NOTHING.

what the hell is that about?
According to news reports this a.m. there have been offers of help from other countries. Russia was named as offering aid, even Venezuela pledged a small amt. of cash donation to support diaster relief (& U.S. has made clear in the past they don't even like their head of gov't./dictator) Some other countries were named too but can't recall which ones.

Argentina comment is hilarious. Especially, since Hugo Chavez has forged an alliance with Fidel Castro and has made the USofA his public enemy. Are wer SERIOUSLY dumb enough to believe him? Sure he is the 4th biggest oil supplier to the US and guess what, Venezuela owns CITGO! Makes ya think twice about buying their product, huh? Not to mention his comments like "the United States the world's greatest menace" and his will to to create some kind of block of anti-American countries across Latin America.

Leave it up to you guys.

Really sad..I was talking to my brother exactly this..."..All countries always received help from the USA-and always require it too....and now, why they don't help USA??"...it's a hypocritic world!!

BTW...I hate Chavez and Fidel...in Brazil president Lula is a POS too..a little time ago they wanted to create the "Cuba's Friends Countries" to support Fidel......retarded and retrograde ideas...sometimes I'm shameful to live in here...it's a really beautiful country with a lots to offer, but with a REALLY corrupt government.

Anyway....hope that USA overcome this tragedy...

See yah!

Canada offered to help but were originally told that we were not needed.
I heard on the news today that we were sending three ships and helicopers to the area this week. We had to wait for the ok from Bush before we could do anything. It would have been a good idea to send help
right away but it wasn't possible.

90 countries have reportedly offered some degree of assistance in $$, personnel, medical equip, communications systems, water purification systems, ships, relief supplies etc. The list goes on and on but here at least (Washington DC area), the word is that the Federal Emergency Mgmt. Agency bureaucracy is still mired with indecision about what is needed so they are still "pondering" over what to accept from other countries. FEMA is a different subject though. Just wanted to point up that the U.S. has been getting aid offers from around the planet, starting w/in 24 hrs. of Katrina landing.

Unfortunately, Federal, State, & local gov't at many levels seems as (dis)organized in coordinating a response, including accepting outside help, as countries that were devastated by the tsunami last December. Ironic cuz the U.S. was pretty critical of some tsunami-hit gov'ts for not having their act together enough to accept U.S. aid in timely fashion. We live in a glass house...

Exactly Neutral. It is complete nonsense that other countries would not be willing to help. The thing is that someone in the US needs to coordinate. Say what you need, and you got it.
The dutch (and this probably goes for some other countries aswell) had teams, fully equiped, experts etc. ready to depard at any moment, but was waiting for an ok from your side of the pond.

It took the US longer to give permission to land in the US then most countries to decide to help.

Vacation is Over... an open letter from Michael Moore to George W. Bush
Friday, September 2nd, 2005
Dear Mr. Bush:
Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,
Michael Moore

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st.

Micheal moore needs to go on an all-you-can-eat-of-yourself diet. Maybe he'll digest himself and eventually be a symbol of himself, a piece of shat!.

all right, all right i dont think he wrote the letter because of use of the word PEEPS in the letter

secondly, if bush would have stepped in in the begining the democrats would have been all over him

things i see wrong, 1/2 LA police quit before the hurricane
why wasnt the national gaurd put on alert
what is wrong with people dont they have humanity

things that i see the media is wrong about

the tsumanmi, they acted like we were there the next day
that they report band & not good

things i know

it takes 3 day to get relief effort
u need to get the supplies
get the people
find out who is worse off

we just cant send in people to a area that is unsafe

things i saw on the news

What the hell is wrong with people, i understand if u need food & water, but tv's & stuff
shooting @ resuce hellicopters, u should be treated as a terrorist & put in jail in cuba

I think that the finger pointing needs to stop. If you have a finger to point, then you have a hand free to lend. That is the way I look at it.

as a resident of the Gulf Coast since birth many people down have had severe Hurricane fatigue over the last year...we have had more than 6 hurricanes in this region over the last 11 months and to us a category 1 , 2 or even 3 is not considered to too much of a threat . why ? because after most leave their home . pack up , board the house and go out of harms way in bumper to bumper trafic for each Hurricane - they return home only to find little damage because the Hurricane either lost strength or veered off the projected path at the last minute... sorta like the Boy who Cried wolf for instance ...do you know that some people were actually cleaning their yards , washing their cars , going to the movies, jogging and doing every normal usual weekend activities 24 hrs before landfall of a storm that at the time was a Category 5 with winds at 175 mph and just around 150 miles off coast .

Well first off, There is a difference of looting grocery stores and Walmart. Looting food, and looking like TV's.

2nd, the Media makes everything look worse than it is. I don't believe one thing fromt he media. The stupid thing is that as soon as the All clear was given, as in it was safe to get into the area, the Reserve and army where there helping.

3rd Whoever wrote the michael moore letter is an idiot and should be shot. It isn't George Bush that is making all the calls right now. If he knew anything then he would know he has a Emergency board for a reason, so if he is doing something they can take action right away. why are ppl so retarded.

So where did they take that picture from? looks like they got into the area fine, and they must have gotten back to the news place fine to write up that story and print pictures. I'll bet they were even kind enough to wave bye to all the people as they flew off to make up stories about them.

Canadians Arrived In New Orleans Five Days Before The U.S. Military

By D.L. McCracken
Sep 8, 2005, 12:03

Louisiana state senator Walter Boasso is praising the rapid response of rescuers who arrived in New Orleans to assist in saving trapped residents as the waters from the corrupted levees began to rise the day after Katrina. The surprising aspect of the senator's praise was the fact that he wasn't referring to the United States military or FEMA. He was praising the Canadians.

The forty-six member Vancouver-based Urban Search and Rescue Team arrived in the St. Bernard Parish which lies east of New Orleans a full 5 days before American rescue units, and the volunteers worked 18-hour days rescuing 119 people in total.

The team worked closely with the Louisiana state police who provided an armed escort throughout the rescue mission because of the increasing violence in the area. A St. Bernard official offered sincere gratitude and told the team that the Canadian rescuers were their first sign of relief.

St. Bernard Parish was home to 68,000 people but was virtually forgotten by U.S. officials who were concentrating their search and rescue efforts on New Orleans which is only a few kilometers away.

Although little mention has been given to aid and assistance pouring in from around the world, four Canadian ships, three navy and one ice breaker all laden with essential supplies are heading toward the Gulf and expect to arrive by later Thursday or Friday.

The mayor of New Orleans dropped the ball. They knew the levees wouldnt hold and had tons of warning to evacuate people. EVERYONE could have been moved if the mayor was actually thinking. Nobody had to stay. They had 5 hours from the time they knew it was gonna hit and the time it did hit. Why didnt they make use of the School buses just sitting around in a parking lot?

They didnt need to evacuate very far. Just needed to take them out of the bowl shaped piece of land they built the city on
