So...doing a little more reading, I found that I will run into a TPS problem...any suggestions? I know, I know, just go to MTX, and that's what I MAY have to do, but I don't wanna delay the swap until I save up for a tranny swap as well...so...any OTHER suggestions or fixes? Why can't I just switch the TPS units? I'm sure I'll find out when I pull my motor and try it out...

Final question: will the auto ECU still shift the tranny with the manual TPS in place? Keep in mind I will be running the manual ECU for all other engine management...

Glad to see you got a new motor. Motor Swaps are fun.

BP09 vs. BP10

Post by WTF »

Just try to find a BP10 in any junkyard, ask for warranty if possible. Then, swap the outer plate that says BP10 for the other one. After that, return it and get your credit.

I have never seen anybody make the BP09 work for an auto tranny, good luck.

So the BP10 will work with an auto tranny? Is there a piggy back AT CPU or anything? That's a good idea, but I'm thinking about just doing the tranny swap as well. It may cost a little more, but the car is still drivable...so I can save up for it. Also, I'd really LOVE to have a manual, so I might as well just save and get what I really want instead of having to compromise...

I'm going to the yard where I got the motor tomorrow. They said "come on out and we'll give you a good deal on everything you need for the manual swap." So I'm going to see what the deal is. If it's good, I'll probably pick up the parts tomorrow or at least sometime soon. I'm planning on doing the shift and pedal assemblies first and then dropping the tranny in with the motor already bolted together, because those bolts were a pain to get off with the motor and tranny in the car...just think about putting them back on...

It's on to sleep now...I'm exausted, needless to say. Tomorrow's another day...

Well, I bought a new tranny and everything I need for the swap, including the manual wiring harness for the engine. The deal they gave me was $500. That includes, the pedal and shift assemblies, tranny, axles, clutch, flywheel, master and slave cylanders, all lines (minus the clutch line, because it was cut), and I think that's about it. If I missed anything, someone please feel free to let me know. :)

Sounds like you got everything. Good score. With the axels did you get the halfshaft (jackshaft)? If you did then I think you got everything you need.

I saw good on you for doing everything at once. I know from this past saturday how much of a poop it is to rip a motor out.

I bought a whole Escort GT a few weeks ago for $1000CDN ripped the motor out with tranny took me 8 hours.

I'm gonna rebuild it since it burns oil and leaks it too... gonna race it out with pistons, rods, oversized valves and switch to solid lifters, etc.

Keep up the good work! :D

I asked for the whole assembly, so I assume I'm getting it. Thanks for the reply, though...I'll make sure I have it when I leave the junk yard tomorrow.

Well, I got the tranny and stuff, including the half shaft, but they couldn't find the passenger side axle anywhere in town that was in good condition, so they took $75 off so I could buy a new one from the parts store. Hell, while I'm at it, I may just buy both axles new. I still need to get a clutch and flywheel, preferably performance...anyone got any recommendations?

OK, so today I got the pedal assembly installed, some of the shifter installed, the master cylinder and brake master resovior installed, and I put the new wiring harness in...and then I ran into a problem before I could install the new ECU...

I noticed that the harness works great...it's the matching ECU and harness from the same car, so no problems there. The trouble is in the plugs that are behind the ECU when it's mounted in the car. You know, there is a black one, a white one, and another smaller white one with 3 wires. The smaller white plug on the harness plugs in just fine, but the pins are in different locations. And on the other two harnesses, there are missing wires/extra wires. Everything else plugs in great but these 3 harnesses.

My question: Does anyone know what these 3 harnesses go to? They run under the driver side dash. My guess is the instrument cluster, but there are more wires under the dash than on the back of the cluster, so it would really help if anyone could give me some insight on how to re-arrange the plugs (or maybe I can just not plug them in?).

Thanks in advance!

Alright.

Since I couldn't find an answer to my question above, I took out the dash and traced the wires in question to find out where they go. Most of them go to the auto tranny, so those came out with the auto tranny harness. There are 4 extra wires on the plugs now, and I am assuming they run to the neutral switch on the tranny, since that is the only 4 wire harness that doesn't have a matching plug. Everything else SHOULD be in the right location on the pins and such, but I think I'm going to get my hands on an Escort shop manual just to make sure.

It's good I took the dash out, too, because that gave me a chance to clean up my wiring on some other mods I did to the interior. Things are coming along pretty well, all I have to do now is secure the interior harness, and put the dash back in. Then I can forget the interior and continue working on the new motor and tranny.
