Hoodzy's How To: Cold Air Intake
So welcome to Hoodzy's How To, hopefully this will answer many of your questions as to what to do. First off I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY WHATSOEVER TO ANYTHING REGARDING THIS.
This upgrade will be mainly for sound, looks and slightly better throttle response. The stock air intake is made fairly well so gains on a K8 will be very minimal.
Well you have 3 options
Option 1- PRM Cold Air Intake= http://www.prmracing.com/ $229CA, still have to use crappy stock intake hose.
Option 2- 90-93 Integra Intake From Ebay= $20-50CA, have to buy an extra coupler to vit the VAF. http://www.streetimports.com/products.asp?catid=179 I am not 100 percent sure that the 2.5" to 3.5" will fit but my guess is it will.
I bought my intake through ebay from Option Group.
Option 3- Can do a custom with generic filter and pvc piping (CHECK FAQ)
So we all know what one I picked OPTION 2 I got this one off of ebay. Their may be some variations that you find on ebay as the Integra has different engines?? This is the one that I bought, they've updated the pic since i bought it, but its the same company.
sorry the pic is small stupid photobucket resized it. Option Group is the company i bought mine from.
I had to purchase a coupler to vit the vaf, should be a 2.5'' to 3.5'' pending on the size of ur intake pipe. I got mine off ebay. Some larger auto part stores I imagine would carry them also.
So once you have your intake, couplers, oil for filter, bracket and all necessary tools you are ready to begin.
First remove all of the old stock intake, pretty straight foward.
You will come across a black mitsubishi logoed piece of plastic on the lower part of the airbox unbolt it and leave it hang somewhere safe or attach. Also you will have a black hose coming from the upper part of the airbox this will attatch into the smaller hole on the intake if you don't have another hole then just plug it.
Note: This is the order in which I did this if you feel there is a better order then feel free to do so. This is just how I felt was best. When done cutting the pipe, use a file to file down all the left spurs on the inside and outside and make sure the piping is completely clean of all metal filings left.
First you will want to relocate the coolant overflow, unbolt it from its place and move it to the left of the headlight, using a bracket attatch it to the car.
You will want to then attach the intake onto the Throttle Body, giving you an idea where to cut the pipe.
I roughly went off the VAF as seen in pictures locating it mid battery. Once I felt that the VAF was in the right spot I cut the pipe coming from the Throttle Body, then from there I fitted the right section of the pipe, having it like so.
Oil up the filter with some K&N and your ready to attatch and tighten all of the couplers. When attaching the one hose(blue one) to the larger hole I had to pull off the black plastic end from the stock vacuum line in order to fit the blue hose into it. I had a bracket coming from the side of the car holding wires for the headlight, I had to remove it so I could fit the filter in.

I later decided that putting a K&N Filter would be best. I had sprayed oil on my ebay filter that came with it and it doesn't seem to hold oil that well. I ordered one rather pricey but I want whats best for my baby. The closest universal filter I could find was RX-4960. This has the X-treme option which just has filtering on the top for more airflow.

NOTE: I did move I believe my radiator relay so i could fit my original filter in and this filter is slightly bigger its a tight fit but doable.

Nice job, Hoodzy. Definately should be moved to the FAQ's. And BTW, regarding that extra coupler you needed to buy... what size of a coupler do you need to fit the VAF to the pipe??? 2.5"?

on a 6 Cyl the MAF is 3"...most of the Ebay pipes are 2 1/2" I went to home depot and bought a 3" to 2" reducer. It is a super tight fit on the pipe, but it definately works...especially if you WD-40 it. I have done it for 2 different cars. I am not sure about the Mass Air Flow on the 4 cyl. though. I think that it is smaller, like 2 1/2 maybe?

If you go to pep boys or any other shop liek that you can get 6" - 8" pieces of 2 1/2" tubing for like $6.99 and they come in angles of straight, 22, 45, 90.
I made a cold air intake for under $50.00
Running short ram right now because of wet weahter.
Stretching a 2 1/2 " coupler over the fat end of the VAF wasn't too hard. Just boiled the silicone for 20 seconds to make it pliable enough to stretch =)

I got a question guys, have any of you guys cut out this sheet metal as pictured, behind where the fog light would be to help the ventilation ?

over here in Australia we have fog lights so just wondering if you guys think it's worth taking it out and enlarging that hole & using the hole in my bumper for a CAI for the klze on the way..
Is It worth doing ? do the gains justify losing the fog lights ?
I don't use them much.

i had a spare one so i just trimmed it off, i might as well leave it to hold the rod and it seems to have a purpose of brigning fresh air into the engine bay which is nevera bad thing.

Are you leaving the factory air intake thing on there or fabricating a different thing to clip to or just letting the prop rod dangle?
After you take off the square intake tube (because it blocks air from getting to the IM), you drill out the rivets holding the rod holder to the tube. Then screw the rod holder into the hole that the tube was screwed into, straight forward of where the rod holder used to be. I turned mine counter-clockwise a little, to hold the angled part of the rod.
