All you UK guys with KL-ZE.
All you UK guys with KL-ZE.
I just got a quote of 1170 for a UK spec 2.5 V6 from a MX6.
The engine only had 29000miles and was from a 1996 MX-6.
So im assuming its a KL-DE.
Where the hell can i get a solid Jap spec KL-ZE in the UK?

Mine was imported. Got it from Corksport
There are breakers in the UK that will have KLZE engined MX-6's, but the problem is that most of them can't tell the difference between KLDE & KLZE engines.
I have heard of people being sold KLZE when they thought they were buying a KLDE and vice versa.
If you phone round the breakers you should ask them for photos of the engines
Visually the KLZE has squarer intake manifold runners.KLDE intake runners are oval-ish like the K8.
It should have KL31-101 stamped on the side of heads
It should have KL31 stamped on the throttle body
It should have KL31 stamped on the cams
Ask them what ECU was fitted to car, if it is KL31 or KL36 then it should be KLZE,if its KL55 its a KLDE(pre 95), if its KLA4,KLA2 or KLH6 its KLDE(post 95).(Ask them don't tell them, some of them will just agree with anything you say to sell you the part).
If the VAF fitted to the car is a JE50(same p/n as MX-3 V6) then it should be KLZE, if its KL02 then it should be KLDE.
There are some engine importers in the UK that can/will import KLZE but I don't know their details of the top of my head. Try lookin on the web or try asking some of the guys in the UK forum at MX6.com.
Hope that is of some help

I my alloys refurbed & powder coated at PPS in Inverurie. It cost £160 for cash. They did a superb job. There are a few companies in Abdn that do refurb but most only respray the alloys rather than powder coating.
I know its a sin but the car hasn't had much exercise recently. Couple of reasons....1/ Work is so close that I walk there & back, 2/ Couple of partially seized brake calipers that needed replacing.
Would I sell it ? Not a chance.
BADMX3
Couldn't tell you exactly. It probably cost £1000 approx. The real killer is the shipping and import duties, I reckon they added £400-500 to the price.
When I dealt with Corksport I tried to speak to Derrick. I found him very helpful and he really seemed to know his stuff. On a couple of occasions I spoke with Ben and it was murder, and got absolutely nowhere, didn't seem to have a clue what was going on.
Had big delays it getting the stuff(I bought a few other bits while I was at it bumper, anti roll bars, millenia inlet manifold) shipped & when it arrived it was to a depot in Glasgow, from which I had to sort out transportation to Aberdeen.
Have to say was very happy with the stuff when it arrived.
So kind of a mixed experience with Corksport, but if you deal with them deal with Derrick.
I fitted the ZE myself.
For the last 2 years my car has squeezed through on emissions but its always been close. The assumption was that it was required because of the age of my car (1994)
This year the system has become fully computerised and specific test requirements for your car are transmitted from the DVLA to the test centre.
The tester informs me that according to the DVLA
1/ My car is emissions exempt
2/ I can bin the catalytic converter
Not sure why its exempt the emissions, might be because the engine(KLZE) is itself exempt, or its from a pre 1992 car, or maybe my car is classified as a kitcar which I believe are exempt emissions.
The tester wasn't sure but as far as he was concerned if the computer says its exempt, then its exempt.

Yes I told the DVLA that I had fitted the ZE.
I have full NCB and I'm only insured TPF&T and it currently costs £300 per year. The first year I insured it it cost me £500
Best place to find the conpanies is in the classifieds at the back of the car tuning magazines
My car is insured through a company that deals mainly with modified and/or kit car insurance. I spent a good while phoning around trying to find a reasonable company to deal with.
The main problem I encountered was that most specialist companies(Adrian Flux etc) wanted to have a full engineer's report on the car and all its alterations & I couldn't be bothered with that. The one I deal with was happy enough with a letter from my local garage stating that the car was 100% roadworthy and had just passed its MOT.
With regard to the costs of buying an engine from the US, judging by the guys in the V6 forum talking about their engine purchases it has got alot cheaper and there are quite a few companies that can supply them.
If you were gonna pursue it it would be worth posting in the V6 forum seeing if anybody really highly recommends a company they have dealt with and perhaps if they are local whether they would inspect/verify that it is indeed a ZE and in good condition before it was shipped all the way over here. Its maybe worth asking

could i come past and take a look at your engine installation and discuss it with you sometime, i've managed to get a quote on a KL-ZE and im seriously thinking about putting something in before winter.
Id really just like some advice on engine mounts and perhaps a suggestion on how to sort out the ECU hell im likely to encounter.
What garage do you use for the MOT, i quite like the thought of having a de-cat exhaust on a 2.5l v6, it must free up bags of power.
PM me sometime, or just give me a wave next time i drive past.

Hi there, iv got a KLZE coming from Japan, cost me £750 with 32k on it. Im going to install it with my uncle as he has a tuning shop near Dover. Can i ask why people use an underdrive pulley with the ZE? as for flywheel the K8 one fits straight on and weight 16lbs as opposed to the ZE 24lbs or summin. I suppose what im asking is asked by all wanting to do the ZE swap? What can i add and what do i need? Any tips? ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
