1.8 to 2.5 swap

Post by luke_mx3 »

Ya so I know alot of you will say use the search function but I have to leave the house and won't have a chance to look until right before I have to buy this car if I do buy it so....

The car I want has a 1.8 in it and I want to swap it for the 2.5. Does the bolts and all that stuff line up or do you have to change stuff? and as an estimate how much do you usually pay for the swap?

Thanks
Luke

 Actually. I find that site not as helpfull as others. Not enough pics...

:?: As for price, people around here (Canada) usually spend about $1500 for a KL-ze swap (JDM 200hp), all said & done (about $1200 USD)... But a KL-de swap (USDM 165hp) could be done for 1/2 that, granted you find an engine for $500 ($400 USD)...

Yep-- you know Pics are the only way to help someone through a swap.

Forget a step-by step walk through. Thats not helpful at all!

I hope you're not suggesting $1,200 USD for a complete ZE swap including engine. Maybe, $1,200 not including the engine. You'd just be plain neglecting a lot of important things that will break later and cause more trouble and money.

And, I'm sorry there isn't enough pics for you. Never heard that complaint before Perry..hah.

 Relax fellas.. I wasn't dissin you're site. Just made a comment, and a pretty legit one at that. Any D.I.Y. "how-to" is ALWAYS better with pics... Hows that saying go, "A picture's worth"...

 put the mouse/keyboard down, roll-up, and chill-out... you're not gonna lose any memebers cause I said it wasnt as helpful as others... Its an opinion...

 If it makes you happy, your site's been linked in my favorites for months... as 'the KL-ZE swap guide'...

* and yes I mean around $1200USD total cost for a ZE swap. My friend I just helped swap in his ZE got it for $1200 Cnd shipped to his door, then a few hundred in misc parts (mostly gaskets)... Thats $1500 Cnd swapped ZE, total... And the engine was mint... Mind you we did the swap ourselves in his garage, with limited space as you can see...

not really...you don't need pics to have a good how-to. If you are too lazy/stupid to not know how to do something w/out pictures then you likely don't have the brainpower to perform the swap to begin with.

Unless its piss-poorly written, it doesn't really matter if its pic-less or not.

Well just to explain I plan on having pics up soon, but many other projects have gotten in the way of it. My installed Hella projectors, fiber glass hatch cover replacement and selling 6 crates of MX parts. I will get them up asap though so I hope that helps you out a bit better.
Gro, I hope that it is well enough written and know that it need to be broken up a bit more so that i doesn't seem so menotenous. I broke it down the way I did b/c it is in more or less 1-2 steps. 1. take out K8, 2. get ZE ready, 3. drop ZE in.

Agreed- Pics are a great thing to have. We recently did the ZE swap into another Members MX-3 (ccreech) and Pat and he took some pics to add to Patricks ZE swap guide. Look for that update soon.

so tell me about this 4th generation rx7 rotary.

I've never read anything about it
Do you know:

1. Cost
2. Horsepower
3. Availability
4. stuff needed to convert what I have now to what the rx7 needs

:? Any links or sites related to this swap? I've never heard tell of it (but that's just me...) and cant see a RWD engine being used for a FWD application...? Sounds interesting though...

8) As for the 'gangin-up' thing Atlmx3, don't worry about it... I wrote that reply NOT in a fit of rage or anger, but to make the point that "it was just MY opinion"... I didnt ramble on about the lack of info available or anything, as you can see from the original post. It was 1 sentence, then the subject/topic changed. End of story... "No harm, no foul"... LMAO (the 'Civic basher' 240-guy)

 Yeah, Chris's engine was a tight fit. The pic looks abit tighter than it is, but it's still tight. We installed Poly-bushings fr-rr, so torgue-flex/engine-twist wont be an issue... All-in-all he's really happy with the end result, and is very thankfull it went so smooth...
Here's the link to a local site we're on. As you'll read, I didnt know him from Adam before the swap. He asked for local-help, I'm local, the rest is history... Real good guy, he's gonna help me do mine when the time comes...

Love the battery reloc on that swap, having mine in the trunk makes the bay look a bit empty on that side, but I'd rather the room and the weight distr. but I still like the way "yours" looks much better.
I am still fine tuning the swap page and really hope to make it the directions for idiots page, but that takes some time.

Thanks for the Constructive critisism.
I hate it and love it that the guys jumped on you, we are a tight knit group here in MOCA, but maybe a bit too quick tongued.

 No worries bro... And for the record, the ZE pictured is in a 95 P-GT, not an MX-3. And its not mine, I helped the owner put it in. See link above, my username's the same there...

8) Thanx, John
