Post by yiorta »

Hi to everyone. Yesterday as i was inspecting my motor i found that from the right side is indicated B55. It is a 1996 model and i thought 16V DOHC - i bought it used. Also on the block is written MAZDA 16V DOHC. What is actually hapening, can anybody realize?

I took pictures but i don't have a server to upload them. I could swear everything is 1600cc Dohc but the logo b55 is written on the side. Also the performance is much much better than the sohc 1600. It is dohc (you can see the diference). But i have never heard of an engine called B55. I know the jap B5 but not B55. Does anybody know anything about the B55???

I also want a favor from those who have the 1600 Dohc to check their motors and tell me what is indicated!

My engine also says b55 on the front right hand side. This is on a 1994 MX-3
manufactured 01-1994. I definiatly have the DOHC cam model and every auto parts store I've went to only listed the v6 or v4 1.8 or 1.6 never mentioned a 1.5.

I have a 95 RS. It's definatly DOHC and it also has the B55 listed just under the valve cover, just above the heat shield on the driver side of the motor in the front. Will post a pic soon.
It might be slow, but it's not a civic!

The B5-DE and the B6-DE are the same engine except for the stroke of the crank and con rod length. It is not unusual to see B5 casting on a B6. The B5 head casting did change for the '97-98 model years when the HP jumped up to 120-125hp on paper anyway (actual power seems to be much higher).

So is that head from 97-98 better? What vehicles came with it?
