ZE Disty, HEI Module, MSD Digital 6 and Blaster 2 Coil

Post by MrMX3 »

I'm just wondering if anybody can verify my diagram for me. I've done research on this board, probetalk, and mx6.com and gathered what I think is the proper wiring. The one thing I'm really not 100% sure on is the red wire from the 3-pin plug (Ignition Coil - ) going to the C pin on the HEI module, being used to trigger the MSD (white wire) and as well having the 1,000ohm 1w resistor wired into the yellow/black wire for the tach output........ that sounds like a little much to me but it may be right. Could somebody take a quick look and let me know if the diagram is right?
Thanks

It looks okay. My only suggestion would possibly integrating the MSD Tach adaptor (don't remember the specific PN - 8910 EIS ?) into the MSD purple wire and red wire and disconnect the MSD white wire in place of the purple. Try your method first (it should work but the tachometer pulses may be off). If it works, then Great! But if you have issue try my suggestion or let us know what problems your having.

I've actually got the tach adapter sitting in my room but never found any wiring information on it, do you know how to hook that up?

This schematic of mine isn't finished yet so I won't show the whole thing. The MSD website should have schematics too. I'm not sure on your MSD Digital, I haven't worked with that before. Basically the the TA Black goes to what your MSD White wire was connected to (the tachometer input). It's probably okay to leave the 1k Ohm 1/4 Watt Resistor.

Thanks, that helped. I'll update my diagram later with a finished one, once I know everything works. The way I ended up doing it, I wired in the 8910EIS tach adaptor. I used the connector for the green/violet wire and it plugged right into the msd digital 6. I think took the red wire on the tach adaptor and tapped into the thin red wire on the digital 6 (which is fed 12v) I then took the black wire from the tack adaptor and everything that is marked to the white wire in the diagram went to the black wire instead, and I left the white wire un-used.

whats a digital 6? If it has the module built into it, there is no need for the HEI as well......Guys on PT were talkin smack about the HEI module thread at first b/c they were pissed they spent $200+ on a MSD 6A or 6AL unit.

But, then agian, i have no clue what the digital 6 is & i'm too lazy to look it up lol

The Digital 6, below 3300rpm produces multiple "smaller" sparks instead of 1 regular spark, to give a bit better throttle response. When compared to the 6al, it draws less current (.7amps/1000rpm compared to 1amp/1000rpm) and produces a bigger spark (135mJ compared to 105mJ) It's also got more voltage output (535v compared to 460v). I also like the fact that the rev limiters are controlled by a knob instead of that pill system. Really it's just a slightly more "powerful" ignition system.... it's in the same series as the 6al but it's their race category.
