I didn't know that. I thought all ZE's had KL31 cams and I don't know which mine was originally - straight or curved neck IM because it came with the Millennia IM. Will have to wait till I remove the valve cover to find out.

That's why most people say, if your going to buy a ZE buy a straight neck, Because the 31's are more agressive
more agressive = more hp
more agressive = more hp

I know my curved-neck ZE has 01 cams, i've seen them myself when i removed my valve cover to polish it...but it was a known sacrifice when i bought it, the car is still fast as hell. With some research, I realise that's it much easier to get cams afterwards than it is to get an intake manifold. Most companies or even wreckers will not part the intake manifold without the engine.
Personally, I haven't been in a huge rush to replace the cams...it would be beneficial for drag racing since the max torque (4800rpms, KL31 cams are at 5500rpm) is lower the rpm range that the car stays in while racing, however for autocrossing which I would like to do next year, would use more lower-end power, so they may be beneficial, who knows.
Ideally, I would love to try some Interprep cams and get some 11:1 pistons.

So what significant HP difference is recognized by having KL31 cams over KL01 because I see the torque/powerband. I've heard that Interprep name before on this BB. Is this a viable alternative instead of getting KL31's.Nd4SpdSe wrote:I realise that's it much easier to get cams afterwards than it is to get an intake manifold.Personally, I haven't been in a huge rush to replace the cams...it would be beneficial for drag racing since the max torque (4800rpms, KL31 cams are at 5500rpm) is lower the rpm range that the car stays in while racing, however for autocrossing which I would like to do next year, would use more lower-end power, so they may be beneficial, who knows.

Actully moving the KLZE cams to differnt than stock postion's
gains can easily be made, its not so much the duration of the cam
more the opening and closing and center line relationship to the crank
that matters and oh going for longer durantion cams are a waste of time.
260's would be the biggest id go on the KLZE
Note, once you start playing musical cam settings this is when you want
TOTAL adjustability and to do this on the k8/KLZE you have to do a
bit of machining though the cam gears are only pressed on the cam's
themselves the exhuast cam can be setup up to be totally ajustable
though you are going to have a noisy gear set as the friction spring
gear has to be removed.....

You can get either engine anywhere they sell jdm engines. Most likely they wont know what you are talking about though. Go to noyanusa.com and tell them you are looking for a straight neck ze and they will know what you are talking about and they are a reputable place.ManiacMx3 wrote:So if anyone has any answers to where i can get a straight neck klze vs. the curve neck where would i go about getting the straight neck. someone help because i am going to order the klze within the next few days thanks.

correct me if i am wrong but i have heard that putting the kl31 cams in the curved necked klze can cause the rods to weaken. i have heard that the engines tend to go more easily if abused more often. not saying that the engine with the kl01 cams would not go if abused.
