Compatibility Questions!

Post by Dragon1976_27 »

God it's been a long time since I posted on here! Well, here goes. I have a 1996 Mazda MX-6 Motor that I want to swap into my 1995 MX-3 V6 1.8l GS. The MX-6 motor I have has an automatic tranny, and the car it came from had ABS. My MX-3 does not have ABS, and it is a standard. Can I use the wiring harness from my MX-3 motor with the MX-6 motor, and can I use the standard tranny from the MX-3 with the MX-6 motor?

Any light you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated! :?:

Perfect, thankyou for the help! One other question, just to make sure I have the correct info, I need a Mazda Millenia Intake for this motor to fit right? If so, any specific year? And lastly the ECU I need one specifically from a Mazda MX6 1996 to match the engine correct?

Just to make sure, do you know if your car is using OBDI or OBDII?

You need a proper VAF, so it you use the MX-6 computer, you'll need an MX-6 VAF as well

Any year Millenia 2.5L IM will fit, it's not required, but makes the install easier

This cant be true.. I have a 94 RS and its OBDI. I suppose the GS's might be different.. but I wouldnt think so.

you have a 94 RS that was built in 93... which is why you have OBDI

But everything built from 94 and up are OBDII

Your car is obd-1. I'm thinking you would need a kl02 vaf and an ecu out of a 93-95 mx6, probe gt, or 626. And the intake manifold that comes on the klde will fit fine it only has a short neck.

I'm almost positive that (here in Canada anyway) that the GS's late-'95 cars and newer are OBDII, which is why I asked

I've seen many 94 mx3s with OBDII in them. All built in 94. However all the 94 model cars with a manufacturing date prior to 94 had OBDII.

All cars as of 1996 are OBDII but some makers had OBDII from 94 but these systems are flawed

What made you think that the 94's you were in were obd2? How many people here have a 94 that is obd2? All i know is i have a 95 gs and it is obd1.

I'm not sure if I have OBDi or OBDii, how would I tell? I know my motor well, I'm just not familiar with all the different car terms and jargon out there. Enlighten me, and I'lllet you know what I got!

OBDII has a plug under the dash on the drivers side where you plug in the reader. OBDI you use the CEL to read the code

I guess I'm OBDi then cuz there's no place under my dash to plug in anything.

Interesting...

I'm doing a search...OBDII was implimented as a standard in 1995. I think the rule is that late '95+ ARE OBDII, while 94-mid-95's, most aren't, but they do exist as a part of a transition phase
