looking for speakers

Post by spano »

i'm looking to replace all 4 speakers with 6.5", but i have no clue what's good and what isn't. I don't want to spend too much, but i want to make sure that i'm getting good sound, if anyone has any speakers to recommend it would help me out lots.

these are some good speaker names u can get for under $200 bucks.
-Blaupunkt
-Infinity
-JBL
-MTX
-Phoenix Gold
-Pioneer (cheaper $90)
-Polk audio
-Rockford

MB Quart if you want to spend some more money, or Infinity Kappa series

I have Blaupunkt right now, and I like em. But I've had em for about two years and think I might upgrade to those Pioneer components that have the kevlar cones.........

I just recently had a set of 6.5" Kicker speakers put in my car along with a decent Panasonic MOSFET amp deck. The punch this setup delivers took me completely by surprise.. I figured it would be "ok" but nothing fantastic. I can feel the concussion waves from these speakers when they hit almost like having subs.. just not quite as strong of a hit.. but still very apparent and they have a nice bass note to them. On the flip side.. it was a royal PITA getting the panels in my hatch and on my doors solid enough so they wouldnt rattle from the increased bass output. I spent less than $500 installed for this setup (Deck & 4 speakers) The kickers came in at about $90 a pair. Reasonably priced and definately decent sound for the cash.

are these good? 64$ for the pair plus $15 shipping. I don't have a clue as to
what numbers are good or bad.

You can get a decent set of components for around 200. Coaxial speakers don't give quite as good a sound. BUT if you are adamant about getting coaxials, get a set of 5 1/4. They're usually nominally cheaper, and they give a better sound. Take a bit of modifying the brackets to make them fit, but i found it was worth it.
