Cars idle is so low it shuts off

Its fine when im driving no problem, but when im stopped its at like.. 300
and if i down shift to second and use the gears to slow me down then i put it INTO second gear, or first... it drops RPM's to zero and shuts the engine off.
Any ideas?
and it feels like my car dosnt have as much power as it should?
anything i can do to beef it up? i have cold air and 2.5 exaust. maybe the MAF isnt set right?

ok theres many things that can contribute to this.

whens the last time you had a tuneup?
check the maf to see if it's in working order
make sure you have no leaks in the intake system
iac maybe bad
