Stock vs. Plus Size Tire Weight List

Post by tatsu »

Here are all of the weights I could find for every current-generation, non-OEM (E.G. Bridgestone RE92's and Yokohama A022's are OEM, and are STUPID expensive for what you get), major brand name tire that is available in both stock and plus sizes from the Tire Rack. Note that the Toyo tires listed are not available at the Tire Rack - their weights are from their website:

BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Summer Tires
  • 205/55-15 = 20 lbs.
    225/50-15 = 23 lbs.
    205/50-16 = 21 lbs.
215/40-17 = 20 lbs. (same as stock size!)
215/35-18 = 20 lbs. (same as stock size!)
BF Goodrich T/A KDW-2 Summer Tires
  • 205/55-15 = 22 lbs.
205/50-16 = 22 lbs. (same as stock size!)

Okay, so insomnia has gotten the better of me. Here are the other, plus-size only tires available in at least two of the correct plus sizes from Tire Rack. Why at least 2? Chances are better that the tire will be around for a few years if there are a lot of sizes available:

Continental ContiSport Contact 2 Summer Tires
  • 205/50-16 = 18 lbs.
    215/40-17 = 20 lbs.
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Summer Tires
  • 225/50-15 = 22 lbs.
    205/50-16 = 21 lbs.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Summer Tires
  • 205/50-16 = 22 lbs.
    215/40-17 = 19 lbs. (Y speed-rated)
    215/40-17 = 20 lbs. (Z speed-rated)
Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus Summer Tires
  • 205/50-16 = 25 lbs.
    215/40-17 = 19 lbs.
Kumho Ecsta MX Summer Tires
  • 215/40-17 = 20 lbs.
    215/35-18 = 19 lbs.
Michelin Pilot Sport Summer Tires
  • 205/50-16 = 20 lbs.
    225/45-16 = 21 lbs.
Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 Summer Tires
  • 205/50-16 = 20 lbs.
    215/40-17 = 20 lbs.
Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S All-Seasons
  • 205/50-16 = 22 lbs.
    215/40-17 = 22 lbs.
    215/35-18 = 20 lbs./19 lbs. (there are two listed)
Yokohama Parada Spec-2 Summer Tires
  • 215/40-17 = 22 lbs.
    215/35-18 = 20 lbs.
Okay, NO MORE - if anyone wants to add any more to this list, feel free. I am DONE. Time to go to sleep...

There are several 225/50-15 tires listed above - BF Goodrich G-Force Sport, Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position, Dunlop SP Sport 8000, Dunlop SP Sport 9000, Toyo Proxes T1-S, and Yokohama AVS ES100.

Of all of the plus-size fitments, the "Plus-Zero" 225/50-15 is actually the closest match for overall diameter to the 205/55-15, but they do tend toward the heavier end of the range for most of the tire models listed. This is balanced out by the fact that you can get some EXTREMELY light 15x7" wheels to mount them on, though, with less worries about damaging the rims on rough roads due to the taller sidewalls...
