CEL comes on randomly

Post by ovendenk »

hey guys,

i just got my o2 sensors put on a few weeks ago by canadian tire because i couldn't get the old ones off. the following week to present, my CEL comes on at random times when i'm driving after the car warms up and turns off within a second if i hit the gas. this will happen for about 20 min before it just stops doing it altogether.

i'm of the thought that it's my o2 sensors and maybe they were installed wrong because it took them like 5 hrs to do it and had to call me twice about wiring issues (even after i gave them the wiring diagram from the manual  ). i just got 4 wire universal o2 sensors. any thoughts or advice???

thanks in advance

Good news is that hopefully you can hold them responsible for fixing it. Im thinking they screwed something up. My o2 sensors hadn't been changed in god knows how long, rusted on really badly. And me and my friend took them off, and installed universal one-wire o2's in about an hour(using lakersfan's write up). Theres no way supposedly certified mechanics should take THAT long if I can do it, and i was incompetant back then.

Take a paperclip, open the little box under your hood just left of your battery against the firewall labeled Diagnostic. Once you got her open look at the little diagram on the top inside of the box, stick the paperclip in 10 and grnd. If you did it correctly, turn the car to accessory(but do not try to start the car) and count the # of flashes of the CEL. Then you will know for sure if its the their shotty work. There are alot of incompetent people working in the field, I prefer to do *most* repairs or installs myself. Atleast I know if its bunged up it was my fault

ok, now i'm really pissed off!!!! i just checked the codes and i got not one but BOTH inversion error codes for the o2 sensors. honestly how can these crappy tire mechanics be SOOO stupid. i was under my car for like 3 hours trying to get the old ones off (stupid 22mm  ). i should have just asked them to remove the old ones and screw in the new ones and let me hook them up.

is it even possible to screw up both of these at the same time??? with the factory wiring diagram and replacement procedure??? and to think i paid them like $140 because i was too lazy to buy a 22 and put her back up on stands. i don't know if i'm madder at myself or at them right now.

bring it back and get them to fix it. Did u bring in the o2's, or did they supply them. If you supplied the part, they'll probably say its a faulty part or some bs like that and they cant do nothing about it.
