annoying !!

Post by snellgrove »

Having recently got an MX-3, with a hole in the dash.. I just finished fitting my head-unit, (had a spare lying around.. given to me as a present)

all that went well, tested it out and found no sound coming from the drivers door..

made sure the connections were ok, seemed fine... made sure the balance / fader was all on 0, so that all speakers would be making noise... that seemed fine! so I popped the speaker grille off after finding a guide on how to do that on this site, -brilliant site this is, I must say.. found one within minutes! .... but once the grille was off, I find a speaker sized hole in the door!!

 not entirely happy about that....

impressed at the amount of bass and general sound the standard speakers make, rears are surprisingly good etc etc ... im not much into ICE really, just wanted to play the odd bit of ch00nage etc..

how much for a speaker then, for that door!?! and are the OEM / Mazda components worth having or are they crap...

I'm not sure how much the OEM speakers are. The right front speaker in my car was blown so I just decided to replace all the speakers in the car with 6.5" Infinity References (the stock speaker sizes are 5.25").

With the speakers alone, they don't have as much bass but that's why they make subwoofers. In my opinion they sound EXEEDINGLY better. And all four speakers only costed me $160, a deal for the quality sound they give.

If you want, you can just go to your local electronics store and buy a pair of 6.5" speakers just to replace your front ones. They're probably not much more expensive than OEM.

I bought new speakers for my car that I haven't put in yet, if you want the old speakers that are in the door now, let me know. You pay for the shipping, though! :D
No more MX-3.

might be an idea just to get 2x non OEM speakers I guess

one thing I haven't checked is whether the wire is still in the door, or if i'll have to do all of that too... coz that'd be a lot of effort (I'm very very lazy... fitting the HU was bad enough ;) )

I'm lazy too, lol. Keep in mind though, with 6.5" speakers, you'll most likely going to have to drill new mounting holes for them. Otherwise, it's a perfect fit.

ahh, I dont really want to drill holes in my car! not my idea of fun

i'll have to find some that mount OK... hehe! turned it up fairly loud today, reckon that passenger side door sounds pretty good, gonna prise that grille off and see if its an OEM cone in there, or some aftermarket one and if possible get a matching one for driver-side door
