BP mx troubles

Post by mx3TT »

A lot of people know my deal with the engine and my haunted mx-3 so I wont get into it. I put in a BP myself and getting everything going finally now that i have money. Had a lot of trouble starting and when it did run it ran extremely rich. We found the temp sensor for the ECU was busted so we replaced it and now it starts very nicely every time. But, when it gets about 2,500rpms or so, it will cut out becuase its getting way to much fuel. What do you guys think, fpr? air flow sensor?

do you have the vacuum line going from the manifold to that solenoid then to the fpr? If so try bypassing the solenoid. On my SOHC i had some serious issues where it would go until about 2500 then hickup and not rev any more and it turned out to be that solenoid. I'm assuming if your using a different VAF its adjusting properly (all the protege people say 4-5 teeth on the RX7 vaf but 3 is about right on mine: more and its way too rich)? What does the O2 sensor look like? I'll try to help troubleshoot as much as a can... just keep posting...good luck

Not sure if the hose is there. It should be but who knows. You have a pic of the solenoid and the hose? I am using a BP air flow sensor and i dont think it has ever been adjusted. The O2 sensor is brand new. It does sound exactly like what yours was doing though. Let me know if you have the pic.

Originally the Vacuum line goes from the manifold-->Solenoid on right-->FPR. Now, as you can see I have it manifold-->FPR
I also got rid of the filter thing for the vics solenoid but that was because it was getting dark and i was in a hurry, but it's doing fine without it.

My MX-3, too, doesn't start up in cold weather.
I did a diagnostic code check and the code is "23".
Does anyone know if the codes SOHC and DOHC engines OBD1 are the same?
If not then can someone tell me what this code means for a '92 MX-3 1.6L SOHC engine?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah but all they did is look at wires. They are going to try to swap out the harness and see whats up. He doesnt think its the FPR but heres a question. If i got a S-AFC could i lean it out by that even though its running bad for some unknown reason? Seems like it would.

before you spend your hard earned $ on a S-AFC: crack open the VAF and adjust the spring.
Same process: http://www.mazdaracer.clubprotege.com/RX7VAF.html
but yes: You can use the S-AFC to lean it out. The S-AFC is the only way i could get my old B6T to run with the bigger injectors...

My appologies, my name is MZein not "foo".
I've posted it as a different topic.

Another issue that can create that problem is a cracked intake boot. If you are still ysing stock intake componets. The Ripples crack and cause major probelms.
