Is my MX3 dying??

Post by sloggy »

Hi, I've just got my baby through her mot, at some expense, but they advise "excessive wear/movement between crankshaft and pulley - Both have elongated keyways which shifted valve/ignition timing - Requires new crank and pulley or specialist repair work"
Does this mean she's dying??

Yeah, man.. crank play is never good. I spent almost $4k (!!!) on trying to work around a crank problem on a 97 cavalier (ex girlfriend's car)... woulda been easier just to replace it. BUT make sure you get a second opinion. We took the Cav to the dealer and they tried to soak us.. and to a point, they did. Turns out that the shop that I normally take my car to had *just* had a cav in with the same prob.. and it had been fixed for under 800 bucks. Ouch.
