My guess on that would be that the low-pros on the 17s don't flex like the bigger tires on the 15s would. When I take my car to the track, I'm going to wear some 14" racing slicks.

makes sense.. i have low pros now :?
but the cool thing is, my tires stick so much that it's almost impossible to burnout now. it just jumps a few times and flies off! WOO

the two things that will eliminate wheel hop totaly. one is Solid or filled moter mounts. takes away all wheel hop. and if for some reason it doesent SRD makes poly A arm bushings, and that will cure it. thats all you need. suspension and tires will help, but the mounts and bushings are KEY.
the suspension helps by keeping the rear stiff for a good take off.

My car wheelhops like hell. It is terrible. I have solid (filled) motor mounts that are totally perfect (checked them the other day) and ZX2 struts. Instead of a 2nd gear chirp I have 2nd gear wheelhop.

The chassis has 109k on it, so nothing extreme. All bushings appear to be okay. I just think its the suspension geometry to blame for the 'hop.

I also have stock 15's and street tires. The only real way that I can avoid wheelhop when launching is to feather the clutch. If i was to drop it, i'd have a broken tranny by now.

with that much power and weight over the front you shouldnt have any. try lowering the tire pressure alittle, since your on 15's you could probably go like 10, 20psi from max when you launch. that might help.
