Odd Powerloss question

Post by projectmx »

I recently added an ebay groundwire kit and also adjusted the idle screw on the intake... that cleared up the ocasional wild idle when i had my brake depressed (still don't understand how that helped but oh well) but one "problem" persits.. for a brief second when i depress the brake my interior/exterior lights dim and my blowers for the heater slow down.. then everything goes back to normal... any ideas what causes this?

There are a few reasons why you tend to run into occerancies like this. They are not nessasarly "Bad" problems.

First and foremost the Alternators internal regulation device is going bad and it does not produce enough charge when underload(or not in this matter) or does not response quickly enough.

The second being is your battery is weak and does not have the ability to front enough juice before the alternator can make up for it.

Neither of these are absolutally critical problems but can come back to bite you later if ignored.

i highly doubt its my battery cause my battery is about three weeks old and its an optima... but i can see the alternator maybe going bad.... hey is there a more powerful alternator i can swap in? like from the bp? or the v6 engine?

if you do end up getting the alternator, go with the v6 one, i'll be doing that swap soon, along with ground wires and an optima battery. Hopefully it will help my idle problem.

Why does the mx-3 idle so low? I forget what the factory idle is but isn't it like 780 something? That seems a little low to me. I also have that problem with the light's dimming. I'm sure its the alternator though. BTW WHAT IS THE IDLE SUPPOSED TO BE AT?

The idle is not too low. It's supposed to be at 750. Most cars now a days idle at that speed or in some cases a little lower...

Fuel consumatoin. If it adds .5mpg you find 3 other things to increase it by .5 and then you have 2mpg. It adds up quick, espically when government concerns are involved.
