Targa Newfoundland Rally?
Targa Newfoundland Rally?
I’m not sure if this is the same rally that I saw a little short about on the speed channel or not but it seems like a cool event, has anyone gone before or even entered? Or are there special rules that only certified drivers or something can enter in it? Just curious because it could make for an interesting event to attend one day. If anyone has any more info about it.
Ever notice anyone driving slower than you is an idiot and anyone driving faster than you is a maniac?

I live in Newfoundland so I've seen every Targa event they held here and each year it gets better with more and more cars.
The only requirements are that your car must be equiped with a rollbar, be legal age to drive in Newfoundland (19) and pay the $4000 entrance fee.
Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think till 2004 anyone bothered to enter with a Mazda, but I seen a RX-7,RX-8 in the race class and a Mazda 6 in the touring class.
The MX-3 would be an awesome car to enter this event in, since all the cars are put into groups usually based on displacement you'll never get put into an event where your car is underpowered. Plus these roads are not straight paths and a small car like the MX-3 would be able to take the turns very smothly.
Checkout the Leg 4- Marystown events, that's where I live and know how well a MX-3 handles on these roads

Strangly there is no prize money in the event, you just win a Targa plate for your car.
It isn't a serious competition as much as a chance to take your car and give it a good run. Which in my opinion is a good thing, it's good to see a group of people who just love to drive there cars and winning and losing is just secondary.

I live in newfoundland too and I really find it amazing that with all the tracks elsewhere in the world, people still want to come to newfoundland to race in this rally. It seems that not many people really know about this place.. and it still blows my mind how many people show each year.
It was funny last year, I was driving around in my mx during my lunchbreak and I wanted to watch a little bit of the targa but I didnt know where it was.. so I followed one of the cars competeing up this little narrow road and suddenly I noticed that there was alot of targa cars... as I looked around I noticed it was ALL the targa cars in front and behind me getting ready to do the next stage.. I had accidently put myself in the race.. Its too bad I left though, I managed to turn around and make my way out but I would have liked to just to go ahead and take off through the course.. I probally would have gotten in trouble but how funny and awesome would it have been? People watching would be lik e"Who in the hell is this guy?"

so you pay 4000$ to drive your car on the road??

I was thinking the same thing. $4000 is a lot just to drive, but what it comes down to in the end I think is you got to remember someone has to get permission to close all the roads which can’t be easy. Then set everything up, at first I thought it seemed kind of silly to pay $4000 to just drive, but that means no speed limit and driving like a maniac if you want within reason ex: (not running people over etc.) Although for $4000 I kind of wish you competed for something… But it could be a blast
