If you use the whole BP harness from ECU to engine - use the BP harness.

If you don't wanna rip out your SOHC harness then just modify it. All you have to do is :
1. Add two wires for the BP VICS connector, one to ECU (see faq for right pin number), and the second to the injectors ground (see faq again)
2. Green temperature plug that was on top of intake manifold in the SOHC, is now on side of engine on the BP. Just have to take the tape off and move the wire, no cutting required
3. Some ground points are at different places, or have different connectors. May have to cut and put on ring terminal, then bolt to engine.

When you get going on setting up your swap. Take pictures of all the connections you remove. If you have any questions while you are working on it. I'll help you as much as I can. Just let me know

Look for my "BP gotchas" post. I'm not sure if I ever finished it (I should look). My '93 harness does not quite match any of the manuals. In any event, the VICS wire made it down to the ECU, but it was in the wrong place. I bought some simple connectors from Radio Shack, drilled a small hole in the side of the ECU, and soldered some wires on the inside to the correct places. I think cut the 2 wires I needed (one for the VICS and one for the PRCV) and put them on the other side of the connector. I did nothing to the wiring on the fuel rail -- just the 2 wires near the ECU.

Bear in mind mine was an Escort BP and its fuel rail is slightly different than the Protege one.

Get an ohm meter and check it all out. I suspect many BP swappers are driving around with their PRCV miswired.

My VICS works like a charm. But what's a PRCV? don't remember those letters?

PRCV = Pressure Regulator Control Valve. There is a tube going from the intake manifold through a valve and then to the top of the fuel pressure regulator. There is a signal that controls this valve.

All of the '93 shop manuals show this wire in one place, but mine was in another. There are 2 of these valves in a '94, and my harness matched with one of those 2 spots.

Also, all of the '93 manuals show 2 control lines for the fuel injectors (one for 1 & 3, and one for 2 & 4), but my car had 4 separate lines running up through the harness. These matched the '94 manual although 2 of the color codes were different.

The manufacturing date on my car is Feb '92, so it's not like I have a late model '93.
