water-pump bolt broke

Post by wgale »

Hey guys,

I am in the middle of replacing my waterpump. The mid lower bolt broke. I welded a nut on the end and it rest of the bolt broke off, so it's flush with the block now. I have never had good experiences with easy outs, so that is out of the question. However, has anyone ever had this problem and reassembled it without this bolt. It apppears to be close to two other bolts so I thought it might be OK, but I wanted to check and see if anyone else tried it first before I reassemble it and find a leak.
THANKS!

I don't think it's a good idea to assemble it without that bolt. Just drill the hole deep for the easy out and make sure the easy out goes straight in when you tap it in. it works every time. Failing that you can always drill it out and heli-coil it.

Yah,
I was hoping I wouldnt have to re-tap the hole. There isn't enough room to get a drill down there. I would have to pull then engine to get enough room or drill out the inner fender. This is soo frustrating, just for a stupid water-pump. I guess I'll just keep welding nuts to what's left of the bolt until the bolt comes out.
Thanks!
