I am about to upgrade the ignition system on my turbocharged MX3 1.6 DOHC (94) to the MSD Series Ignition.
Does it make a difference whether I go with the 6A or the 6AL? Also which coil is preferred Blaster 2 (long cylinder type) or the Blaster SS (flat square) version? Will I need to purchase the MSD Tach Adapter to allow my stock tach to work after installation? I am currently using Magnercore plug wires with Denso Iridium IK20 plugs.
Please advise all of you folks who are running MSD Ignitions on your MX3s.

Re: MSD IGNITION QUESTION
you should read up on the 6btm unit on their web site, its for turboed cars, there are 2 versions of it.

The 6a is the same as the 6al, the only difference is the 6al has a built in rev limiter. As for the coil I would go with the blaster ss coil, I believe they are specially for imports.
No tach adapter is required. I dont think. I am not too sure with the 94 mx but I know for a fact that you do not need one for the 93 mx-3. I have a msd in my car. I havent had a chance to use it yet but I expect there to be dramatic difference.
And the 6btm is the unit that has a dial which goes inside the car and you can ajust the timing up to 5 degrees or so. So that means for every pound of boost that it detects the timing will retard 5 degrees or whatever you set it to.
If you have any questions just call msd, visit http://www.msdignition.com to get the number, tell them what you have and they will tell you what you need.

Thanks for the info Franko,
I will do some more reading up on the MSD 6BTM and make a decision shortly.
Is anyone using any other ignition systems besides MSD? What about Accel 300+ Digital Ignition or the Jacobs Electronics ICE Pak? How well do these work on the 4cycl MX3?

I'd also reccomend the 6BTM from MSD. It will allow you to run more timing advance when your not under boost (It will retard as boost rises). This will virtually eliminate turbo lag on small turbos, you'll come out the hole like the car is all motor, then as boost comes on it will auto retard the timing accordingly up to about 20 deg. max (1-3 deg. per pound of boost). I choose a different route by using the Accel 300+ Digital Ignition w/ CDI coil, then added the Accel 375+ Control box. The Accel setup I have is a LOT more tunable w/ more spark energy. The Accel 300+ spark energy is equal to the MSD Digital 6-Plus. And the Accel 375+ Control box not only controls boost timing, but also has a single stage nitrous control, 2-Step Rev Limiter, RPM Window switch, Start Timing Retard, Tach display mode, & Manifold Pressure Display Mode. The Accel 300+ Ignition w/ CDI coil is $210 and the Accel 375+ Control Box is $200, then you have to get a MAP sensor for the Control Box (I'm using a MSD 3-Bar).
P.S.
I have about $550 in the Accel setup plus I'm installing the Accel DFI 6.0 EMS (I want the DFI Gen 7 but can't afford it right now).
If your penny penching go with the MSD 6BTM $336
If you can afford the Accel setup....you'll love it! It's VERY compact in size, also gives u a LOT more control and spark energy, I have pics of them installed on my cardomain page.
