Led taillights interest
Led taillights interest
So I am going to make a prototype for our cars and I am looking for interest so I can decide wheter to produce them or not. I am going to take a pair of stock tail lights and convert them to LED. I have a couple ideas for the arrangement of the bulbs, but won't have the actual light done for a month or so. the Leds will be orange and red, and I figure the cost will be $150 cdn (using your old lights more if I have to find some housings) probably can make different styles for a few more bucks. Any interest?
Re: Led taillights interest
I was interested a long time ago. I even have a set of spare tailights kicking around. But I was gonna do mine myself. More fun that way. 3rd LED Brake Light was a start for me and the easiest. But now I am thinking of another headlight project, so not sure how much time I would have for my tails. What were you gonna stick in there? Lumileds, Nichia, Grote, 5mm's? Any plans for current regulators? Will, also, you might want to mention that the LED tailights will not be street legal.

Re: Led taillights interest
Much like your projectors and 3rd brake light Taras? I'm sure the people won't mind if they are d.o.t. approved or not. In all actuallity, I met a man over the weekend that bases his home buisiness on led lighting, so together he and I are going to make up a set and go from there. all the proper capacitors, resistors, regulators, etc WILL be used and I expect the highest quality from this guy as I have seen his work first hand.
Re: Led taillights interest
can some one tell me what the difference is about these LED taillights as opposed to stock?

I just whipped up a little something that the final product could resemble (chances are this won't be the prototype)<img src="http://img122.exs.cx/img122/2337/leds5jv.th.jpg" alt=" - " />

Lookin good! I espically like the yellow blinkers on the red brake lights. Looks a lot newer and cleaner than the orange on red. just my $.02

Re: Led taillights interest
Looks awesome. I'd go for something like that. Makes it look newer.

Will, yes. Nothing homemade is DOT compliant as much as we would like it to be. The only reason I was mentioning is so potential buyers are aware and to spare you potential liability. You know that insurance company will go nuts once they find out that you had homemade taillights. Imagine you've been rear-ended and hurt.Originally posted by n_o_s_21:

Re: Led taillights interest
Duely noted Taras, I thought about this already, and anyone wanting to buy this type of thing would get a disclaimer card, much like the ones from APC etc, so noone could hold me liable for anything. I'll try to work on some different lighting arrangements when I have a few minutes to timker around.

Welcome to lighting addiction. HID's, CCFL's, LED's, FO's blah, blah, blah. I would be interested to see how your tails turn out, especially if you are getting involved with a guy that does it professionally.

Re: Led taillights interest
i always thought it would be really neat to have "MX3" as a brake light where the existing brake light is in the little window.Originally posted by JWMX3:
