Projector Headlights
Does anyone know of someone who makes projector lights for MX-3.
I'm talking about those really clear and mirrored lights that a lot of the new cars have. Kinda like what a 2000 civic has.
-James

Re: Projector Headlights
Sorry I don't know if anyone makes them, but if they did I would buy them. They look so sweet.

Re: Projector Headlights
No one at this point, James. I've talked about it with our VP and couple of the guys about this as a long shot project that I might try. I need to get a hold of some headlamps really cheap at the wreckers and pick up some projetor lights to fabricate into it.

Re: Projector Headlights
That would be so sweet on a MX-3. It would definetly help long range visability. My cousin has a 2000 Civc CX and I am always jealous of how clear and bright his lights are. I wonder how close the lights on a MX-5 are.
-James

Re: Projector Headlights
Are you talkin about HID's? The bright lights on BMW, Mercedes, ect. If so, they sell conversion kits for like $500, but not for the mx-3.

Re: Projector Headlights
you can get a 9004 conversion for the MX-3. Problem is, you have just 1 setting, no high and low beam selections.

Re: Projector Headlights
That conversion sounds not too bad. I usually drive with my hi-beams on anyway since they aren't that bright. Where does this kit come from and how much is it?
-James

Re: Projector Headlights
Another question is...Has anyone ever attemped to take apart their headlight (take the clear cover off)? I wonder if there is some way to remove it and change the lense to be clear with out the line textures within. Mostly all new cars have a clear window look to them showing the mirrored surface inside. I wonder if it's possible to get it polished off.
-James

I don't think it's possible to polish off the interior line finish from the headlight glass assembly. However, if you manage to take the assembly appart, you could most likely take it to a glass shop and have them mold the lights for you to make custom glass covers for you. Problem is, in almost all cases I've heard of on both Mazda's and Honda's, once you open the headlight, it almost ALWAYS leaks afterwards

Re: Projector Headlights
Well, I think I'm going to give it a try. I'm sure I can seal it good enough so that it doesn't leak. I think I should call the autowreckers to see if there are some MX-3s to take headlights from.

You have to heat up around the sides of the assembly, (the same method of the clear corner lense install).
I remember one person talking about doing this so he could clean the inside of the headlight lense.
However most people recommend against doing this because if you do not seal the lense again properly water or condensation can get inside the headlight and you definately don't want that.

I think I would most likely leave that in, just to avoid loosing light distance.

Re: Projector Headlights
This might sound like a weird idea but I saw a Ford Escort with projector headlights and the looked about the same size and style as MX-3 lights. I think I might check into that and get some exact measurements.
