Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
Need4speed and bonestockkid both have a 2.5(I know need4speed has a klze, not sure of bone stockkid), but they have both posted quarter mile times of 15.5 or in that area? I've been around this board for a couple years and ive always been under the impression that klze mx-3's run anywhere between low to high 14's, not mid 15's. What's up with this? I'm concerned because I'm going to be doing a swap within the next month but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. Enlighten me please.

Re: Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
My theories why i cant get to 14's
-Stock Intake
-Stock Exaust
-Worn Stock Suspension with bad rear struts
-All-Seasons on Stock mags
-The syncro's are going in 3rd and 5th gear or my clutch needs to be adjusted, so i get a bit of grind on those gears, and shifting is hard and clunky.
-Cayuga Track seems slippery
-I get a slighy backfire when i idle, an o2 sensor may be going
-Nerviousness and lack of Experience
I Also did some runs last week with jsut downpipe and stock cat (exaust was rusting and broke so i took it off until i get a 2.5" done next week). my best i pulled was a 15.5, and it was slick from a light drizzle and rain.
What is funny is that on my best run a few weeks ago, my 15.4, i reached the end of the track just getting into the redline on 4th gear, last week, on my 15.5, i hit the end of the track just getting into 5th, betcha is cause of the rain, but doesnt explain why i still managed a 15.5...i think the potential is there, i just need to nail it
Honnestly, even with those times, i still lvoe my KLZE, it kicks soo much arse just daily driving, i wouldnt trade it in the world, im a bit disapointed, but i dont regret it, and i have alot of work to do, to bring down that list of excuses
. One thing i should have done is dragged my old k8, cause i betcha, i wouldnt have done as expected for k8 times either...know what that number would explain alot...
One thing i manage to realist while dragging, is that with the Millenia KLZE, my max torque is at, i believe 4800 rpms, but when dragging, i never get that low in RPM, after i shift at 7000+rpms, my next gear i start somewhere in the 5000-5500rpm range, so im beyond my powerband...performance cams should fix this as well

Re: Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
this is what your power will be when you run with no air filter or air box and with a 2.5 inch exhaust. the torque max is at 4700 and drops off at 5700- but you will still have lots of H.P. untill 7000 to keep going down the track, N2o always helps
, the main solution to the falling torque is a set of headders and cams <img src="http://members.rogers.com/curts-klze/images/dyno3.jpg" alt=" - " />

Re: Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
sounds like some one would like to buy some ze parts?????
what ecu do u have ?
it is allways better to hold each gear out because of the lost torque of the higher gear

Re: Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
I ran a 14.6 with just my swap and the car stripped, powershifting 1st to 2nd at 7300 rpms and speed shifting every other gear. Then a 16 flat on a bad 02 sensor....

Re: Unimpressive KLZE mx-3 track times?
Dang I'm not saying anybody is slow I'm just wondering what kind of factors are causing these klze times to be slower than others. Of course many factors come into play when at the strip, I'm just wondering what everybody has, which may explain the not so great times. Chill. This is not to critisize, which i havent done anyway, its to learn.Originally posted by aaron the hic:
