back from Moroso

Post by andy »

To start, I had a great time despite my bad times.
By bad I mean I was not breaking any K8 records
Friday night. :(
Place Was packed and a little confusing for the first timer. Thanks to one of the Probe owners for approaching my car and helping me out. I really appreciated that alot.
I only have 4 time slips due to the fact that the paper ran out while I was staging on my 5th run. they never got it fixed after that. Oh well, I still stayed and made 6 more runs without any time slips, good practice and still a fun time.
This slip was my first run and my best slip.
Raced a dodge dakota p/u. Yes he won. with a 15.72
to my 16.77
heres the detail:
r/t... 1.034
60'... 2.55
330... 7.13
1/8... 10.87
mph .. 65.77
1000.. 14.07
1/4... 16.77
mph... 82.98
I don't know anything about the last 6 runs except that I was losing alot.
I couldn't see the timer board as I was passing it before the times were posted.
Lost to a mx6,probe gt,honda rsx-s,older prelude.
corvette z06.
MY only win was against a pickup truck, F150. and even that was very close.
Can't wait to go back :p
Andy P. 93 GS

There was four lanes of cars feeding into the two staging lanes. it was entirely unpredictable who you were going to race. In the case of the Z06 I just focused on my shifting and not on his taillights, which were not in focus by the end
There was another MX-3 there, red with graphics on the doors. I didn't get a chance to meet them.
If you are on the board please let us know how you did.

If you mean the mx6 I'm not sure it was ZEdd.
He ran a 15.494 to my 16.88.
If you mean the z06 vette, I don't have a clue.
that was without a time slip.
My reactions times were better by the 4th time slip. I had them down to a .70
I redlighted once. I tried leaving on the second yellow. that was against the honda rsx-s. that would explain why he didn't catch me until third.
thats another one I don't have a time slip on.

I was basically shifting two ways with similiar results. 1st= 7000-7200
2nd= 6800-7000
3rd= finish the 1/4
3rd= 6600-6800

hey dont feel so bad. i went to the track on sunday. and this is ironic. my very first race at the track, now the ironic part it was against a dakota pick up as well. he beat me. its pretty funny though. i knew i would have crappy times because my clutch is toast. but at least i got the initial fear over. so this week when i get my act clutch installed im going back to the track.if your wondering the times here you go
oh the truck ran a 14.8 at 91. and i ran a 16.2 at 92.
r/t .865_______________.718
60 2.756_____________2.048
330 7.358_____________6.080
1/8 10.874____________9.441
mph 72.21_____________72.90
1000 13.768____________12.351
1/4 16.234____________14.808
mph 92.15______________91.02
my time is the left side. my second race was a disgrace. i ran a 18.1 @64.02. needless to say my clutch slipped through all the gears.
[ January 20, 2003: Message edited by: jademx3turbo ]

Jade i think you have a lot to gain on youre 1/4 times.. really you need to focus on your launch try to get our 60ft times down to around 2.2.. I get that with my setup br dropping the clutch at about 3900 rpm.. granted ti will be diffrent for varying setups.
Word to the wise though.. be carefull on a high traction surface with launching that hard.. I cant wait to take my old transmission apart to look at the pieces.
[ January 21, 2003: Message edited by: torpedan ]

Thanks Jademx3turbo for the encouragement.
Looking at your speed at the 1/4 you will get much better times with more practice.
I don't think I mentioned my slowest pass.
Second run, feeling pretty good that I didn't screw up the first run to bad. that feeling went away quickly. I don't even remember what I brought the rpm's up to, but what I do remember is spinning the tires all the way through first.
I popped the clutch and floored it :D needless to say I didn't do that the rest of the night.
this is what that time slip looked like:
r/t... .998
60'... 2.778
330... 7.509
1/8... 11.312
mph... 64.53
1000.. 14.562
1/4... 17.284

.700 rt's are good just be lucky you can run the track, I had to dig my subaru out of a 1 ft snow drift last night because of a little e-brake slide .

actually i can launch my car very well. but i cant launch now due to the factory clutch. like i said i just went to get over the initial fear and to see the difference of before and after. the first race kinda pissed me off so i pushed a little harder on the launch on the second. heres my slip for the second race.
r/t .730
60 2.574
330 7.227
1/8 11.214
mph 63.41
1000 14.752
1/4 18.100
mph 64.02
if you compare the 2 slips you can tell that i babied the first launch and granny shifted.but as soon as i break in the new act clutch its on. im looking to blow that 16.2 away. lol...

Not too shabby. What were your launch and shift points? Just more seat time at the track will help those times. I'm starting to get the itch to see what my car will run now...it sure keeps up well with LT1's on the street.... ;)

Launch point= 2500-3500, conservative I know but the tires are new. all runs except my second run.
1st to 2nd = as soon as I went over 7000
2nd to 3rd = approx 6800-7000
3rd finished the 1/4 on the timed runs with slips
And then I tried shifting into 4th at approx 6500.
I will add that I had better times but I don't have the slips to back them up.
My cheering section (daughter and friends) watched at least one 16.30 run, they didn't remember the speed. on that run I shifted into 4th somewhere around 6500 rpms.
It didn't seem like anyone was running good. could be that it was to cold, could be we had a 10-20 mph head wind out of the north.
I can't wait to go back, I'm hooked.
My daughter wants to go also but only if its warmer.
I'd love to see you humble some of the newer, quicker cars.
