Head Gasket Help

Post by rosso75 »

I'm doing a head gasket on a '93 MX-3 for a friend of mine (1.6, 16v). I almost fell over when I found out how much the head set was. My local parts stores want between $145 (AutoZone) and $187 (Schucks). Why so much? I got a head set for my turbo Volvo recently for about half that price, and Volvo parts are supposed to be expensive. Anybody know where I can get a head set at a reasonable price?
Also, are the head bolts a one time use bolt, or can I clean up the old ones and throw them back in?
Thanks
Bryan

Lovin' the low cost of my Volvo parts...

Anything for MX-3s cost a lot of money the majority of the time. It's just part of owning this wonderful Mazda.

I just paid $250 (CDN) for a V-6 head set, and that's a smoking deal too.

You can re-use the head bolts as long as they have not stretched past their acceptable specs.

Good luck with the work.

You can reuse them, and should not have any problems... but for safety's sake, it is always a good idea to replace them.
