Do me a favor - do not get rid of your MX-3

Post by rukick »

I have noticed a few things lately that have troubled me. 1. There are three Mx-3's with for sale signs on them within a few miles of my house. 2. I used to be so happy when there was an Mx3 down at the "you-Wrench-it" salvage yard. But lately there are always 2-3 there. 3. I have heard this phrase too much lately "We are not making that part for the Mx3 anymore."
I love my mx3 and I have great plans for it. I know that it is 12 years old but I am in the middle of putting in a new rebuilt engine and I just had it painted. The paint job is guaranteed for 5 years and I plan on keeping it at least that long. SO lets keep as many as we can on the road to be sure that we will all have parts for years to come. Anyway, I am done ranting.

Mazda isn't going to make parts for the MX-3. They don't care how many are on the roads. They don't even know how many are left. When they sell out of a part then that will be that. Sad I know. :(

With the amount of swappable parts from other mazda and ford vehicles, I am sure you will be able to find what you are looking for.
I plan on keeping my Mx-3 for at least ten years. Maybe get a second one, or a third.
Rest assured, with this mx-3 community we will help each other out, and turn the mx-3 into a classic.

Manufacturers have to keep new parts available for sale for a particular model for 10 yrs after it's production run, so that means that you will be able to get parts for your belowed Mx until 2008 that is in Europe at least. I think the situation in Canada is a bit better as they were more popular. I have no problems finding new or used parts when needed.

iirc - classic is 15 years, antique is 25 years
As for getting parts it's not too bad right now but they will cost you.
