It just helps to keep your car from leaning to much while turning.

it's like a strut tower bar except it's under the car. They have a end links (small 3-4" pieces) on each side that attaches to the tab

If you were taking a hard corner without swaybars installed the side of the car opposite the corner (if youre taking a left turn then the right side) The suspension on this side of the car would squish togethor while the opposite side pushes up causing severe body roll and very poor handling. The sway bar makes it so that when that one side of the suspension gets squished then the bar gets twisted and in turn forces the suspension on the other side sqwish in a similar fasion so there is dramatically less body roll and much better handling. ;)

so what'd be more important, having a strut tower bar, or a sway bar?

With our little cars stick with a strut bar its cheaper and more then enough gains come from it.

Sway bars are, just like the name says, anti-sway devices to keep the vechicle from rolling side to side in cornering or other quick turning action.

They are more important and influential to the steering characteristics than a strut tower bar ever could be.

If you want real changes, STB's are NOT the way go to. If you want more rigidity, then yeah, get a STB.
