Ripped Dust Boot

Just a quick question; I noticed when I had my car on the jack that one of the dust boots on my strut is ripped. The question is, will it hurt the strut if I don’t replace it and is there any way of replacing it without taking the strut tower apart?

all of the dust boots on mine are not just ripped, but barely hanging on to the struts. they have been like that since i bought the car but it still rides like it should, i wouldn't worry about it if i were you...

I WOULD worry about it, its just like not having dust rubber boots on your axles, itll wear out your struts eventually

But I’m assuming there’s no way of replacing it without taking the strut and the spring apart?

I would worry about it. All it takes is a little sand to get on the shaft and it could either score the shaft or cut the seal and you have a leaking shock.

well my cars been on the road for over 15,000 miles with the boots like that and they salt and sand the roads in the winter here and nothing has happened to my struts. if you just have a crack in your boot and are worried about it maybe you could just put some duct tape on it or something.
