how best to lower/raise car

Post by projectmx »

I still do not have my mx3 but i finally found the one i'm buying... just working on gettign it to me.... one thing i'm interested in is having the car so i can vary its height... i plan on having a body kit and it would be nice to be able to keep it high enough so i didn't have to worry about it when just driving around in general and then lower it when needed.... from what i understand bags give a terrible ride when cornering and such.... is this true? i love the feel of my pro on kyb's and h&r's when i do corners but i am torn cause i want to be able to go lower than that car but easily raise it also

IF you want adjustable height, get coilovers. ONLY and ONLY groundcontrol coilovers. Dropzone are crap fromw what I understand.

you wont be able to "easyly" rise and lower the car, evey time you change the ride hight (even 1/4 inch) you HAVE TO DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT or you will kill your tires.

I read last last year in sport compact car of an air suspension designed for a wrx that was used in racing ??? anyone else read this ?

anyway they said the air bags performed better then anything else. I doubt this could be used on an mx-3 just thought i'd jump in lol

dont go to low it just causes problems it may "look cool" but its just not to practical.

i like it just a little lower for a better stance.. but out in colorado the entrances/exits for parking lots are difficult for me to use even with my protege without scrapping so that is why i want something adjustable.. and if they used an air suspension for that i don't see why i would have terrible handling with those instead of conventional lowering springs/struts

if every time you raise/lower your car even with bags you have to redo alignment does that mean all cars with bags go through tires fast? cause they cant' get an alignment everytime they do that

To tell you the truth, I lowered mine with Suspention Techniques' springs, which dropped the car a total of about 1.5 inches once the springs settled. I use Tokico struts. It looks lowered, and when I put my kit on I won't have to worry (too much, anyway) about scraping and such. Lol no adjustments required after that. 8)

even with adjustable coilovers, u have to do an alignement when u lower/raise ?

out here in colorado lowering is very difficult because many of the entrances are at around a 45 degree angle or higher in some cases.. my protege which is lowered only about 1 to 1.3 inches scraps and has no body kit so i would destroy and body kit i put on the mx3 rather quickly

i know the best way..to lower your car LOL JK....
never never cut your springs...if you i will drive out to colorado & beat u ...jk

well what i would do is find somewhere local car clubs meet & ask those guys....either they will know or they will tell u lower & dont worry about breaking expensive body kits

yes.

what you would do is do an alignment at the hight you will be driving it most. then do what you want, raise it for curbs, lower it for shows, but when you drive put it back to the driving hight.

if you dont then you will kill your tires.

example: BMW X5 has optional adjustable ride high. flip a switch and it lowers the truck, if the trucks speed reacher over 30 KPH the truck automaticly raises to normal ride high, same thing happens if you raise the truck higher than normal, over 30 it lowers its self to normal hight.

This way the alignment is maintained and the tires are safe.

YOU HAVE TO DO AN ALIGNMENT IF YOU CHANGE THE HIGHT OF YOUR CAR.

What is the best product to use when raising a '92 4cyl MX3? I want to avoid the tragedy that occured when my last MX3 slid under a Dodge Durango and my engine just ate his tow-hitch. Is there a solution to this situation?
