Thanks for the info, guys!

Problem is, I can't really tell which rear wheel the hum is coming from. I'll try to pay more attention. I'll also jack the car up and check for wheel play, as Barry suggested.

Thanks again. :)

hey, were you able to pin-point where the noise is coming from. i have a similar problem, it sounded like the humming (bearing noise) was coming from the front. but the thing is i put my just about bald front tires in the rear, and the better ones in the front, now the vibrations have gotten worse...(keep in mind i havent ruled out my tires as the culprit, as they are slightly feathered, and had 60psi in them for some time,,)
butif someone can describe the bearing noise to me more in depth that would be great...
would a bad bearing cause the steering wheel to shake mroe and more as i go faster??
hope yah fixeed'er 2.5!

I've had almost the same problem lately, ever since my car got out of the shop. They replaced the front tires, and axles, balanced and aligned everything, and now i get front end vibration arround corners and sometimes going straight whenever i accelerate.its not throuh the pedals, it just feels like the axles are loose almost. And ive noticed a squeak coming from the right side, that seems to happen with every tire rotation, you know, "squeek squeek squeek." They also replaced my brake pads and apparently "buffed or resurfaced" something that i didnt tell them to, and now my brakes squeal like you wouldnt believe. It never did this before it was in the shop, so when i take it back should i tell them to check the bearings, or something, or just trust their good judgement to fix it (haha) I've searched about this and havent found a whole lot. as always, thanks for the help guys :2thumbsup:

I have yet to find any problem, although I when I had the car up to rotate the tires the other day, I did feel a little play on the front passenger side wheel. I really didn't know what I was looking for, though. Was it a worn bearing, or just axle play? I think I'm going to totally replace the axles and go from there. I thought I replaced that passenger side bearing recently though...

I'm also now getting a grinding vibration from the front end at higher speeds, when turning the wheel to the left. This is most noticable at highway speeds when taking a slight left bend in the road. I'm can't help buy wonder if the two problems are related.

sounds like the same issue as me 2.5, except your case is getting worse than mine.. sounds like the bearing going somehwere on your car..
i jacked up my car to check for play also, and none of the wheels had play. However, i think its very likely that a bearing can be on the way out, and still have no play, but as time progress's the wheel play will be more and more noticable.
btw 2.5, was your wheel play up-down, or left-right .. i.e. pulling at the sides of the tires?

Hmm, I seem to recall that it was side to side. I didn't think to try and rock it up and down...

Not one bit, actually. I was hoping that it would be a bent wheel problem, but I'm still getting the same vibration *only when accelerating" and now the grinding vibration at speed while turning to the left (which could very well be a completely different problem).

I would say it is almost definitely the bearing. I had my cavalier do that, I went through three bearings in about 6 months (not packed properly at the factory)they were sealed units, with the bearing, hub, studs all in one unit, over 140 dollars a pop. but it all started with a humming/grinding noise when i turned left, then went to the shaking at highway speeds. Also my control arm bushings were bad, so might also be something you want to check on.
