Are Mazdaspeeds my best choice?
Are Mazdaspeeds my best choice?
I've done some searching around have found that most struts are meant for a very mild drop. The KYB's are .5 inches smaller than stock, but ive read they arent meant for a drop much more than 1.5 inches. My goal is to get the ground control coilovers(for my GS) and drop it pretty much to the max. I live in the city and for the most part the roads are pretty level and smooth so im not concerned with scraping or anything. Heck, ive been riding my RS around with a 3.5 inch drop and ive had no trouble so far. So my question is....for those of you who have pretty aggressive drops, what struts are you using and how is the ride quality? I know im going to be bumpier than stock, thats the price to pay, but I'd like to minimize that affect as much as possible. Thanks..

KYB's are smaller than stock? Mine were the same size.

My bad, thanks for correcting me. I had them confused with the tokico zx2's.

Well, if you got more money than brains...go with mazdaspeeds. Other than that, id' say ZX2 Struts would be you're best bet. That's what i would think at least .

why not get air struts or whatever they are. Then you just have a compressor and you can control your lowering, you can even drop it to the floor with those. If you want pure show, then that's what I'd do.
Re: Are Mazdaspeeds my best choice?
You know what ive actually considered that but ive read that a proper air system will cost some big bucks. Sure, you can get a cheap system for like a grand but ive heard they handle like crap. I'd kind of rather stick with the ole mcpherson strut set up...

Yeah, a full setup will cost a lot. But four air-struts and an entry level compressor(not real quick drop or rise, just their cheapest) should cost around $2000. I'm guessing, maybe it's less.

mazdaspeeds are the sh!t!! I have Adjustable struts on my Festiva and oh my god..talk about an improvement in the ride. It rides stiff, yet controlled. I love it.<p>I Might end up making the investment for my Protege someday as well. I have the Tokico's on my protege right now, with the 2" sprint lowering springs.

When you say it rides stiff, is that all of the time? Is the difference noticeable when you adjust them?
