broken axle??

every time I turn right and accelerate at speed (most times) I get a distinct clunk clunk clunk sound (pretty technical, no?)... only occurs for short while (50 ft maybe)... at speed there is no clunking... to me the sound appears to be coming from the left front, but that's the only place that I sit... who's a passenger anyway??...<P>mechanic told me nothing appears loose but that it sounds like an axle is broken... and that he can't do anything until it gets much worse... <P>haven't had a broken axle before so what's the prognosis.. am I going to be driving along one day and suddenly have my front end drop out?

i had that problem too":P and what it was , on my right side there was a torn boot and it let water in the axle and my right axle rod got worn, and it made that clunking noise around slow turns and stuff. Its not too much to fix, and you dont want it to go on ya when your driving so id get that looked at.
