Intrax &ZX2 Suspension Problems

Post by justin h »

I just put Tokico ZX2 struts and the Intrax springs on my car and I have a bit of a problem. The back right tire and rim rubbed on the strut shaft and caused it to go flat. I still need to get it aligned. I figure this is most of my problem, but on both sides of my car in the back there isn't enough room to stick your finger between the tire and the strut. Also, the front tires seem really close to the bottom spring perch, then again so are the back ones. This distance between the tires and spring perch doesn't change, right?
I'm planning on getting camber bolts to help this before I get it aligned.
I just don't want to take it to get it aligned and find out maybe its just that my rims and tires don't fit. BTW I have 215/40/17.
Should I get smaller tires? I need new ones anyway, but I don't have much money. Or is it just my rims? I have 17" Konig Rated R's. I don't remember the offset, but I know it was the most common (hopefully that makes sense).
Can anyone think of something else that it could be? I'll check back often to give a better description.
Thanks.

Your camber is almost certanly off. Use the camber bolts in the top hole(which I'm sure you already know)
You may need to slot the struts in order to get enough clearance if the camber bolts aren't sufficient. That, or get thinner tires.
Good luck

What offset would work best? I was already thinking of getting new rims and tires (if I can afford it).
ProtegeSTS, can you run the concept of offsets by me real quick? I know what it is, but I don't know which numbers are what (+/-).
I gonna try the camber bolts until I get new rims & tires.
Also, Mazda Motorsports has the bolts for ~$10, right?
Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for the help.

I couldn't find those bolts through Mazda, but I was lucky enough to find the local distributor, they sell them for $9.
I have zx2 struts with H&R springs, and I don't have that problem. Maybe you run into that when you use Intrax, since they lower your car like 1.75-2inches...
