MAF problems
MAF problems
I am planning on going turbo until the end of this year.
My MX-3 is 1.6 16V B6-ZE.
Seems that the MAf cannot support the forced induction, and it is a major headache.
Is there another MAF we can use under forced induction?
I have searched and some ppl posted that thr RX-7 MAF works fine.
Is that true?
I already bought and read Maximum Boost, and now i am looking for all the parts.
i just can´t find answears concerning the ECU and MAF adjustments to the 1.6 B6-ZE under forced induction.
Thanks

B6-ZE is a 1.6L *MIATA* motor, NOT a MX-3 motor.
B6-DE is a MX-3 DOHC motor.
92-93 mx-3 SOHC has a VAF (with the flap "door")

Re: MAF problems
Sorry bro!
B6-ZE is the engine code for the MX-3 1.6 too..at least in Brazil (imported from Japan until 97/98).
And from what I know, all the +94 RS models have MAF (hot wire type).
John Walsh's MX-3 (Jade's crew) used to have a supra MAF. He got around 200whp.

Re: MAF problems
Seconded.
And YEs its an MAF, check the manual for it, Mazda refers to it as an MAF also.

Re: MAF problems

Re: MAF problems
the 1.6 dohc is a MAF and in north america it is a B6DE and everywhere else in the world it seems to be a B6ZE but some books refer to it as a ZE. and to awnser your question. the stock MAF on a DOHC will support up to around 16psi of boost. this is where mine starts to cut out. and on the older sohc is where they swap in the RX7 MAF because its larger and allows more air flow. with the dohc this isnt needed. it may be restricted but flows good enough. i saw on a miata they upgraded their maf them selves for a supercharger. they made their own out of some 4" pipe and just relocated the insides of the maf to the pipe. looked alright and allowed alot more air too. the mustang maf looks similar and would allow more air. i looked into doing a swap, but you would have to do some modifying.Originally posted by Tubarao:

Re: MAF problems
If you go to racingmazda.com you see they put the MAF before the turbo, right after the filter. They have that system running so i would go in the same fashion if it works, <img src="http://www.racingmazda.com/images/s1-installed.jpg" alt=" - " />
But then again thats a SOHC, i would think it would work the same for the DOHC.
