Re: Trial fit intercooler
as long as you can get plenty of airflow there somehow is all that matters. looks like with that setup (i was gonna do the same) you'll need to setup a hose setup or air ram of some sort.

Re: Trial fit intercooler
i believe with less piping, the response is better and lag is minimal. you can do what im doing (of course im using this setup to cool a tranny cooler, not my intercooler) is i modifed the DS turnsignal (pics soon) and i removed the unused housing part on the left side. i dremmeled out the lens and interior and hollowed everything out, so it provides air to my tranny cooler behind it. this way, the turnsignal still works and the housing is just hollowed and acts like a 'ram' almost.

Re: Trial fit intercooler
aawww, look at the little baby intercooler
you might want to leave it there but lay it flat and use a hood scoop to force the air onto it, like the STI, Isuzu Impulse turbo, pontiac Firefly turbo, Thunderbird Turbo coupe, ect...
and add a home made intercooler water sprayer to spray water onto the intercooler to help with cooling.
also, if you could get a little longer one, you could re-locate the battery and lay the cooler flat at have the outlet pipe go right to the throttle body.

Re: Trial fit intercooler
why not sacrifice your windshield wiper and hook up the hoses to the top of your intercooler.. that way you use windshield washer controls to cool the intercooler with just plain water.
hm i should've done that on mine since its not daily driver anymore, but if your car is still daily driver i wouldn't do it. just an idea though.

Re: Trial fit intercooler
I dont want to make a big deal of it, its your car and all.
But... with that intercooler, if you remove the battery it will fit just fine if you lay it flat.
but if your going with a FMIC in the futur I gues it woulnt be a good Ideia to cut a hole in your hood.

Re: Trial fit intercooler
i got a question. istn the purpose of an intercool to cool the air comming out of the turbo. But you not getting any "fresh" air on the intercooler. most cars have then on the front grills and place where they give a cool air flow when it car is moving.

Re: Trial fit intercooler
If you wanna be stealthy just get one of the PWR barrel style liquid/air intercoolers and replace your little air/air one w/ it. That would be a sleeper from hell! The PWR liquid/air IC would be TONS more efficent! Not sure of price....but I remember that it blew my mind on how cheap they air price wise!! As far as making a ram air setup for the one you have, RS Akimoto makes several Large ram air horns that neck down small enough to put a 3" pipe on. You'ld just use something like a 3" exhaust J-Bend from Jegs, or Summit to pipe the air up to the IC from the front bumper cover. If you take off the front bumper you'll notice the sheet metal on the front driver side of the car directly behind the bumper. It already has a few small holes in it and blocks off the little pocket area below your washer resevoir. take a pair of tin snips or a dremel and cut out the front face of the pocket. That is the best place to pipe your ram air. My PRM intake feeds my turbo just like that.
