Re: Bolt-On Turbo?
I've done most of this I am still in the process, but it has not totally broke the bank to do it. I am currently running 9PSI no problems, with a VJ-14 Hybrid. It is sitting in my garage for now until I can get the fuel system right. I will have to make a few purchases to get the rich/lean situation right at all RPM's. Still can't get the Air/Fuel Mechanical guage hooked up because no knows which wire to connect to at the O2 sensor. Here is my cost so far.
VJ-14 Turbo and Manifold - $100.00 US
Intercooler and BOV + Piping - $200.00 US
Magnecor Wires and NGK Plugs - $57.00 US
Gaskets - $15.00 US
Labor - Free
--------Purchases Pending (Estimates)
RR FPR - $200.00 US
RX-7 Fuel Pump - ???
APEXI S-AFC - $320.00 US OR JDM S-AFC $100.00 US
Fuel Injectors - $200.00 US

I forgot to mention gauges are necessary not optional use the best autometer at least a boost gauge and air/fuel ratio gauge I was able to get both of them off ebay for $109.00 US.

Re: Bolt-On Turbo?
i'd also suggest getting an egt. it's actually a better tuning tool than the a/f gauge.

Re: Bolt-On Turbo?
Hey there I got a questions regaurding the set-up of a turbo. Most people which I know
that have done this modification had there
engines retro-fitted with proper pistons cams and special fuel injectors along with a new ecm and mass - air flow sensors. What have you guys done to the internals of your engines or is even required or not.
Thanks johnny

Re: Bolt-On Turbo?
it all depends on the amount of boost you want to run. with the stock b6e motor, you can run about 10psi safely. after that, you'll want to beef up the bottom end.

Re: Bolt-On Turbo?
I think it'll handle slightly more. just look at the Sept 2001 issue of Sport Compact Car. There is miata with bone stock internals, but he also has a $4,000 stand-a-lone ecu. With the right tunning and money of course, the B6's can handle more boost pressure. but spending that much money is not really worth it to some people.
[ March 31, 2002: Message edited by: jaydog5678 ]
[ March 31, 2002: Message edited by: jaydog5678 ]
