How much can nitrous reduce the life of an engine?

Post by Brainless »

OK, everybody keep saying that our engine could easilly hold 50 shots of nitrous. If I would install a 50 shot kit and use it rarelly, mostly at the track. My engine is 70k km (about 43k miles) and is running perfectly. Should I expect my engine to die at like 120k km instead of 200k km like normal engine?

it does add some extra stress to the engine but i dont think a 50 shot would effect it that much. i would say that it would last just as long. i had a 125hp shot on my rs sohc for 2 yrs. after tearing down the motor recently i noticed that it was abnormally clean and the bearings showed no abnormal wear. abnormally clean because a freezing gas was induced to a 180 deg. engine. given i had only put maybe 100 total nitrous miles on it that whole period. the point is nitrous is not on all the time and your engine will only yake the added stress for maybe 10 sec at a time. thats why the engine bearings showed normal wear and tear.

Is there anything I could change (pistons, ?bearing?) to completely eliminate the negative effect of nitrous?

you could replace the pistons with forged pieces and the rods with upgraded ones but with only a 50 shot it would be a waste.if you were to replace all internals i would run at least a 100- 150 shot.
