nitrous is not cheating. getting nitrous tuned correctly is a project in itself. both turbo and nitrous have their ups and downs. their is a minor difference from what nitrous and turbo actually do. one pulls and one pushes the air in from the outside. they are both engine mods and should be treated equally. just because one is cheaper and easier to install doesnt mean it is cheating -- it means that you are getting the most for your money.

You get more power by cramming more air into the combustion chamber.
Nitrous just increases the percentage of oxygen in the combustion chamber to produce extra power.
The simple fact remains that Nitrous is the least useful form of getting power.

its cheaper, easier to install and gets the job done very well if you ask me---seems very useful in my eyes. besides if two cars raced, both with the same hp-one with turbo the other with nos. the one with nos would definately win because of instant power -no lag. then you can turn it off and drive home with the same fuel economy you came with. if it were cheating they wouldnt allow it in the nhra. :D
besides i dont need a lesson on how a turbo and nitrous work. and still stand by the fact that they accomplish the same thing in different ways. but thanks for the lesson anyway
[ December 31, 2001: Message edited by: boostedmx ]

And the fact that nitrous is harder on your driveline than a turbo.

Also, Nitrous IS illegal to use on public roads......after a bit of research, ive found the following...
SS 22-404.5. Power booster systems prohibited; exceptions.
Statute text
(a) Definitions.- In this section, "power booster system" means any device installed in a motor vehicle which allows liquid nitrous oxide to combine with gasoline for the purpose of increasing engine power.
(b) Use prohibited.- Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, a person may not operate on a highway a motor vehicle equipped with a power booster system.
(c) Exceptions.- A person may operate on a highway a motor vehicle equipped with a power booster if:
(1) The vehicle is enroute to or from a track where the vehicle is used for racing and the power booster system is inoperative; or
(2) The container of nitrous oxide has been removed from the vehicle.

So....like ive said, do whatever you want.

just because its illegal doesn't mean people don't use it. street racing is illegal, and i'm sure close to all the people who've replied here race.
