Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
it all depends on the user. if you use it correctly, you won't have any problems. now....if you spray for 45sec straight and during shifts...your motor will be hurtin'. nitrous is a safe hp increase. i suggest a wet system, but they cost more.
by the way, NOS is a brand name, not a general term for nitrous(sorry bout that, it's just one of those things that irks me...my pet peeve i guess)

you aren't the only one with issues on the generic use of NOS. i bet they've gotten a whole lotta business from it, too.

Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
If you DO decide to go with a NOS system (hehe...just kidding) a Nitrous system, I would go with a Zex brand. I have read that they are about the safest Nitrous systems out there because they are computer controlled. Most people blow up their engine by getting carried away with the amount. Also you do not really want to use it unless you are at WOT anyways. If you do not get enough fuel in with the nitrous, that is when you start to have problems. I have seen pictures of pistons with holes melted in them because of a nitrous leanout. Check out this link about nitrous dangers.
http://www.healthyhome.net/nitrousexpre ... Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
yea, i'm running a zex kit in my GSX, its real easy to use, and it's pretty safe. The kit i have came with 3 diff. jets...55, 65, and 75 shot. Once the nitrous is engaged, it only sprays when the car is at wide open throttle, so basically it's off unless you floor it. Nice HP gain...i saw a lot of these kits on eBay for decent prices. Oh yea, the mx-3 TPS (throttle position sensor) puts out 4.5 volts at WOT (wide open throttle), so that's the kit you'd need,

Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
but with wot nitrous kits, doesn't that make it harder to launch w/o breaking traction?

Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
I wouldn't think so, but then again, but GSX is all-wheel drive with a 4-bolt rear-end, so it doesn't have a problem off the line

As for FWD cars, if you dont spray it off the line, you should be fine...if you do, you'd probably spin a lot more...ask Jarid (CJThor), he's running nitrous with slicks and ran a 14 something...i dont know how he launches...
[ December 02, 2001: Message edited by: Bri94GS ]

Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
I noticed that when running N2O on my MX-3 it is best to launch without being at WOT as there is no traction otherwise. I mean, I break the wheels free again when I get to 4K in second, so to launch with the nitrous on makes no sense. (I run 205 50R15 so they get decent sticking power normally.)

Re: hwo bad is nos for your engine?
after looking into this more, if you do get n2o, you would want a wot setup for safety reasons. at wot you are accelerating to fast for the ecu to adjust the a/f ratio using the o2 sensors, so it runs off of a preset map from the factory which causes the car to run a little rich. so if you run a wot, you really won't have to worry about running lean as long as you run a moderate shot. and if you get a wet system, you'd be doing even better

If you are going to get nitrous get a wet kit, the dry kits are cheap and dangerous, two of my friends have serioulsy damaged thier engines with nitrous.
