mysterious clunk in the front
I have a 96 Eunos 30X, and it has a clunk that is driving me batty and i was really hoping that someone would know what it is from. When braking, noise comes from the front left of the car, quite loud and it feels like the pedal goes down a little bit. It occasionally does it in a straight line but usually when braking, louder when turning. I have taken it to 3 different mechanics who can't find a thing wrong with it. Car doesn't have too many kms on it (90,000km) and doesn't get driven very often. I first noticed the noise about a year ago, but it has just got louder and now it is quite loud. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: mysterious clunk in the front
do you have different springs? or is the car lowered? my spring coils smack each other if i brake too hard or hit a big bump. either that or maybe your axle or CV joint is messed up. but since the mechanics couldnt find anything wrong, i duno..

Re: mysterious clunk in the front
suspension is standard, I have fitted 16 inch rims, but noise started before i did that, and it is definetly only on the left side. The last mechanic tightened and lubricated everything in sight and it didn't make any difference. He says it's one of the best cars he's seen and he can't tell me why it clunks ![Crying :crying:](./images/smilies/crying.gif)

i say take it to a different mechanic, there may be some guy out there that's dealt with it before and knows exactly what the problem is, i say get different oppinions

Re: mysterious clunk in the front
clunking when braking in a straight line...i wouldnt lean towards cvs.
I would lean towards, brake calipers and worn pads, possible a broken pad that when braking catches and slips up slightly and clunks (ive had that)
i also had a worn strut bushing which clunked my suspension wasnt sitting snug.
when on corners it could be CV joints if its an ongoing clicking noise.

If the CV's are worn they can make clunk whenOriginally posted by DavidOS:

going over bumps and such. Mine do. CV axles aren't only moving with the wheels when turning. They also move up and down with the suspension. So they could be a very real possibility.

i realize that, but going in a straight line it clunks.... she didnt say bumps.
i guess it could be a million things that go clunk from the front. end
i will stop guessing as the car isnt in front of me to open up and look at.

Re: mysterious clunk in the front
it's a stabilizer link. It's probably busted or the bushing is not all there

Re: mysterious clunk in the front
Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who posted a reply.. Clunk has been fixed. local mazda dealer said it was either a sliding pin in caliper, or stabiliser bar. They had the car for an hour, greased slides, tightened bar and now sh'e all good again
Thanks![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: mysterious clunk in the front
my Mx-3 made the same noise and eventually went away after several visits to the Mazda dealer ...never really found the problem though ..on another note unrelated to the above topic... just curious as to what "the cheeky" refers to in Tanyathecheeky (your login name)? ...also nice car and hompage !
