Muffler/exaust system Plz Help

Post by seneca »

Hey guys,

Thx the greattt body kit I got from onderground (note the sarcasm) To have my rear skirt fit I will need to change my muffler to a single pipe (instead of the dual tip on the oem GS). Any recommendations? What sounds good on our V6 without sounding too ricey. I like the modest deep growl, yet quiet enough so it doesn't howl at the moon in second gear. Something with a silencer possibly? I like the sound of the stock exaust, possibly something like that but a db or two louder? Is this possible, to not have a loud ricey muffler?

Also, would it be more efficient to get something like this Pacesetter Exaust System.

http://street-import.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_27

I really don't know what to do? I don't want to spend too much as the body shop will be hurting the bank account already! :welder: SO I guess I'm looking for something that is priced reasonably, easy to install, sounds oh so sweet, and won't compromise power.

Any suggestions?

You guys are the ones that have tried this out b4....

Thx everyone,

Tyson

Bearing in mind that i am no expert in mufflers;
I havent heard anything good about pacesetter, they have a reputation for rusting and stuff. Personally,i had a canister muffler on my car that sounded really good at certain rpms, but the drone was more than i could handle, so its gone now. Replaced it with a flowmaster for about 10 minutes then took it off, :welder: still not the sound i was going for. (still got it if you want it, litterally on the car for 10 minutes) Someone on this board said that the mazdaspeed cat back system from corksport is supposed to get rid of the drone and can be made to remain somewhat quiet. Wish i knew what else to tell ya.

I second what Ryan said. Pacesetter is known to rust out. There have been several discussions about its quality (or lack there of). If u search, u will come across many threads about Pacesetter. Get a custom cat-back system made.
Im going with a 2.25" w/ glasspack and Magnaflow muffler and tip. I will have it on next wednesday, after my KLZE Swap.

I got a custom cat-back system for about $400, 2.25 pipes, 2.5 resonator, and a magnaflow dual tip muffler. I think it sounds great, but it still has that drone between 2-3k rpms.

Sorry to sound like a noob, but when you say drone...you mean sound not a loss in power, right? Also, can you have custom systems built anywhere?

You see, the only reason that I'm doing this is soly b/c the stock tips will not fit out of the skirt. So naturally I want to explore all of my options. Well it seems that I'll just get a new muffler for now instead of the whole piece.

Can you change these yourself? And what mufflers are recommended? Are Apexi any good?

You can get a custom exhaust made at any muffler shop. Just tell them what u want, and they will mix and match the parts. Why get something prefab, when u can get something that is how u want it, sounds how u want it, and priced more to your liking?

Im sure with all the vehicles that come and go out of the muffler shop, the guys there would recommend something to your liking.

Ditto. Just go to any muffler shop and tell them you want a somewhat quiet muffler with a single tip. I'm sure they can hook you up. Can probably even get out of there for $100 or less installed.
