1. slim visor $70 US + $20 US S&H. The guy lives in BC so thats CANADA like myslef. I emailed him and didnt get a responce...so I duno if he still makes them or not but either way they are expencive and from what I have read they have a little kick in the end of them that allows watter to flow into the car.
2. sport guard $49.99 US + god knows what S&H to canada...seems like a nice visor only problem is I have not seen a close view of these on a car. I havnt heard any reviews on it and the visor seems to bubble out. Personally I like the style of the slim visor where its flat..
sooooo I came to a decision...make my own...now I found a place in Ottawa that sells plastics and cuts them to your specifications if you want OR just sells you the bulk plastic...there are lots of places out there but this one seemed best. Advansed plastics of ottawa its on canotek road in gloucester ontario. I picked up what seems to be a very nice and CHEAP plastic...its called sterite I believe. Ill look into it again. I picked up a sheet big enough to make 6 visors thats 3 pairs and it cost me $10 bucks CANADIAN
HOW TO SO FAR:
I first made a stencil out of paper this was a little tricky to do. I tried styrofoam at first, basically anything I had available in my garage... cause im not a billionare...the styrofoam stretched too much so it wasnt a good medium...the paper in retrospect was also kinda floppy and dificult to deal with but thats what I ended up useing. Gotta work with what u got right!! Cardboard would have been another good alternative (a bit stiffer)
now let me tell you about this plastic...its not a clear plastic its solid white but paintable which was my intent all along anyways (same color as my car: white) The plastic is very flexable and does not shatter like many plexyglass alternatives. To cut it all you need is an exacto blade. Just apply a little pressure and score the plastic then lightly bend it at the score mark. It should easily split at the score mark...make sure you do score it from one end to the other though...dont just stop half way through and start splitting the peices.
After you score and split off a piece to work with stick your stencil over it and use a pencil to mark arround your stencil...you might want to leave a small gap so you dont have to be so precice with the next scoring step...(scoreing the plastic with great accuracy is dificult leave the gap and sand it down later)
anyways at this point u should have a rough window visor (really rough)...at this point u need to sand it down...I had a belt sander and that worked like a charm. I marked the exact areas to shave down to with my original stencil and shaved it all down. I then smothed it all off with a smoth sandpaper and this is where I am at now...
I have tried it out several times on my car to test fittings and do additional shaving and molding of the visor...it looks pretty good so far...I will post some pics as soon as I take them...I have another one to do so Ill document it...
The next step I am takeing is to use a blowdryer or heatshrink gun from work (its like a really hot blow dryer) and see if I can make a slight curve to fit the vertical curve of the car..again Ill post pics...
After that 3m tape and a lil paint and im set.
The entire point is I spent $10 bucks and a few hours and I could have a potential 3 sets of these things...plus even if it doesnt work out and I dont like the look I wasted a mere $10 bucks...but from the looks of it so far...I got my moneys worth and more...
Lastly I know this isnt like some crazy mod or anythign and I probably talked alot for nothing but I gotta say I am glad to be doing something on my own for my car...and its not costing a bloody fortune...
all I gotta do is paint prime and 3m tape it on...ohh and make another for the other side (documented one)
